I suffer from tonsilitis every year, and I recently had to have a fair amount of dental work.

Other than than jelly (Jell-o to you colonials :) ), I became quite a fan of porridge. when that ran out, I had some packs of grits which my (American) mother-in-law had sent me. I'm not a fan of grits, but any food was better than none.

As also suggested, shepherd's pie (or cottage) pie also works, especially if it's left to cool a little. It works especially well as it can be made in bulk and split into smaller portions for frequent meals.

The default is always soup, moreso if left to cool, as with the shepherd's pie.

I hope he recovers quickly. :)
Thanks,
Dan

Hope this helps.

Guinness and Marmite bread, with or without the breadmaker to knead and prove.

If anyone would like the recipe, let me know. :)

I must admit to having a breadmaker. But it doesn't just make bread. I can use it for cake mixes, scones and mixing better for pancakes.

My George Foreman is mostly used for finishing fried stuff, but I also use it to make quesadillas and toasted cheese.

Does anyone use their washing machine or microwave other than their intended use? At the moment, I can't think of anything.

This is also somewhat normal in Germany. You can buy them all year round and seem to brighten up mealtimes.

My favourite as a kid was bananas and custard.

It does, however, go with anything sweet. Pie, cake, tart, crumble and in trifle.

Personally, nothing beats a cold afternoon in front of the TV with a bowl of custard, but making it seems to be a bit of an art.

Most people these days (at least here in the UK) buy it ready-made and put it into the microwave.

If it's a glass jar/metal lid combination, I find that submerging the jar in iced water, and pouring some hot water on top works. If it doesn't, combine this with rubber gloves.

Works every time for me. :)
