I like that you are using the radiator and windowsill as additional "table space."
Me too!

Love the curtains, the light, the chairs and the table spread.
So adorable and doable!

Oh, and one last point: I don't really understand the point of having a dedicated guest room. I mean, really, how often are you really having guests? Now if it's a storage/office/guest room, great.

Small Space Solutions: Making Guests Comfortable WITHOUT a Guestroom

I'm very proud of one of my friends who squeezed in 4 guests into her tiny NY apartment. One friend shared her bed, 2 were on the sofa bed (she moved the dining table to the side and had no coffee table), and another slept on the floor, on the sofa cushions.
It was easy to clear up, and the 6 of us hung out at her place just fine for a weekend.

My 10 x 10 room has a doorway and is open to the kitchen, as well as having an opening to a hallway. I have to have my computer in this room, and it only really fits in one space, while the TV is stuck in one area.

With all this in mind, I have a loveseat to the right of the door (perfectly under the window), an ottoman before it, the tv to the left of the ottoman, the Parsons table with the computer to the right, and a light armchair in front of the couch (doubles for the computer). And, because I need storage, I have an armoire next to the tv.

It works just fine for 2. :)

I have about 2 x 8 ft of countertop space, but it's been taken over by a basket of fruits, coffee maker, a tea pot, a tray holding the sugar, cream, coffee, hot chocolate, instant coffee & teas. We've also got a cute little thing that stacks our cups.
Then, in another section, a ton of cds, the mail, a few storage containers, cell phone charger.
Other space: some pots & pans, and finally, a tray with the oils, spices and some paper towels.
And, usually whatever condiments or spreads we used that day.
Lately, and randomly, some of my jewelry (bangles, charm bracelet, necklace, watch) in a container.

I'm always amazed when my mother visits and *gently* points out all the things I did not do. Like, say, clean the baseboards. Or the ceiling. Or the cabinet doors. Or the front door. Nor did I vacuum the couch.
I'm also amazed by how much and how often some people clean. I mean, I know people who clean 3 times a day, everyday. Even when on a 'staycation'.
Frankly, I leave the bathroom, sink (no dishwasher) and trash to my roommate, and do a decent job with the rest of it, but I'm also a 'piler' with tons of papers (I write/research/read a lot).
It all makes me grateful that I don't live in a bigger place that would mean more cleaning!

OMG, that bird is incredible. Wow, I love it! :)

Also, I do like the *idea* of the table, like those long narrow benches with wooden slats that also work as tables for kids...

I absolutely love the first 5 and the last 3 pictures. I especially love the TV solution, and the blackboard wall.

Picture 6 is the only one with any design problems, in my opinion. Too many big, graphic stripes...

I love the shelves over the island. It's also a way to get some airiness instead of getting upper-cabinets, and more storage than a pot rack...

The couch with all the books behind it: I LOVE it. That's what I have against a wall in my bedroom. I can't say mine looks very artistic, though! I think I could convince my roommate that this can be stylish and not LAZY if I show her this pic! :)

Oh, also: various OTC meds, underwear, old-fashioned style address book, and my keys of course.

It did rain on Monday, but the hotel provided cool old-fashioned umbrellas, though I didn't use them. It was Florida rain, you know? The sun's out, the rain's light...

Oh, and I have no kids or plants. I've just realized how easy traveling is for me! :)

What Do You Do When Leaving for Vacation? | Apartment Therapy DC

A few weeks ago, I decided to take a trip to NY on Thursday night. I only had Friday afternoon to get it all together. For a Saturday morning flight (um, 5 am).

Since I have a roommate and no pets, I didn't have to worry about the apartment. Had to borrow a carry-on and camera from a neighbor, though! And ask a friend to drive me to the airport.

Since I was only staying until Monday afternoon, I used the same jeans, purse and jacket every day, and packed 2 versatile shirts, 1 pair of shoes, a pair of pj's and slippers.

My purse ended up weighing more than the carry on, as it had my makeup, a book, magazines, hair brush, notebook, pens, snacks, water bottle (bought at the airport), Kleenex, iPod, cellphone, camera, chargers, batteries, toiletries, wallet, ect.

Happily, this meant I had enough space in my carry-on for a bunch of souvenirs and the entire Sunday NY Times.
