The dining room table is... wow. I made a salvaged wood console table a month or so ago and had considered using old sewing machine wrought iron for the legs, but couldn't find one that looked quite right... but looking at your table, I'm reconsidering trying that look now. I second the other poster who said this...but that was a VERY worthwhile indulgence!!

I also love all the vintage photography. I just ordered prints of my grandparents wedding day, circa 1946 - now trying to find just the right place for it.

My console table is my little tribute to my trip to Morocco:
http://justanothertreehugger.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/livingroomafter3.jpg

the table I made myself from reclaimed wood
the lantern is an antique purchased in Marrakech
the tangine I bought in Fes
and the framed picture above the table was taken from our hotel room at sunrise in Meknes

I've done quite a bit of traveling and always bring treasures home... its hard to find a balance between a nice eclectic look and just over the top, non cohesive STUFF.

LOVE the bathroom and the 2nd pic.

Ha. I can never be satisfied for long...

I was feeling all smug and proud of myself for making a salvaged wood coffee table...

Now I'm sitting here scheming a headboard like #7. I love that bedding too - but I have a feeling that texturey linen would be a SERIOUS cat fur magnet.

TriciaRose - on a scale of 1-10, how crafty/talented do I need to be to create something similar?

Traveling in Morocco and Tanzania, I saw stunning carved panels like #4 frequently, and priced fairly. So I'd sit there staring at them for 20 minutes trying to imagine how I'd possibly get them back to Boston, then I'd pout and walk away. I absolutely LOVE that look though...but have a feeling its way out of most normal folks' budgets.

I love the subtle but important Asian antique pieces - the Buddha, the TV stand, the trunk... as a fan of that "look", its always a balancing act, trying not to over do it and have it become cheesy

I also love the outside - makes me swoon a little as I look at our concrete slab of a "patio".

But mostly I am jealous that you get to keep small objects out on tables and shelves while cohabitating with a cat. We haven't figured this skill out yet, hell, I can't even keep empty glasses on the coffee table for more than 10 minutes!! How did you manage?

but...but... its mahogany, not veneered crap! Real solid wood furniture is an endangered species these days - please dont paint it! I know it looks dated - but how about taking out the glass and adding a mirror? Or refinishing it with a more modern stain?

Errrmmm.... how do you water those? And don't orchids require a special type of soil, that is not (last time I checked) gravity defying?

As a black thumb, the only success I've had with "high impact" plants are these cute little air plants:
http://justanothertreehugger.wordpress.com/2010/06/23/more-fun-with-air-plants/

I glued them on to tiles... I'm really proud of how they came out - and all I need to do is spray them every few days - no need for gravity defying dirt :)

I am so, so jealous of those bathrooms. They're perfect.

I admire your use of orange - I'd be too chicken to go with a color that bold, but in your place it works perfectly.

Wish you had included more pictures of the nursery though!

Congrats on the beautiful kidlets :)

This is such a clean, funky, masculine space - by that I mean its clearly a guy's apartment but it doesn't scream "bachelor pad" in any of the stereotypical ways.

I appreciate that you've used JUST enough IKEA stuff. Too many people go overboard and end up with an apartment looking like a corner of a showroom, and not in a good way.

I'm giggling at your comment about sticks and dead leaves - I'm on my 3rd attempt at not murdering cilantro myself.

:)

I'm torn on this one. I love the living area - the rug, coffee table, and especially the dog who looks like he enjoys posing. I also really like the pendant lamps over the kitchen counter - I like most of the lighting, actually.

The bedroom is not over or underdone. I like it.

But the bathroom...eeekkkk!!! I know its probably got some kind of retro cool factor going on, but I could never relax and take a bath in a pepto pink bathroom. And it clashes so much with all the other colors in the house! I've turned down many an apartment in the Boston area because of the pepto pink or baby blue bathrooms.

love love LOVE the baby's room. Its perfect, and in that case, really does give the feeling of expanding a small space. The rest of them are a little too busy for me. In real life, with furniture up against it, or bookshelves, etc, it would just look like too much going on. I do love those decals they're selling all over etsy though - same idea - a cherry tree or a birch tree with a little bird to liven up a plain wall, but without the overwhelming-ness of wall paper.

*yawn* a kazillion dollar budget and this is what they came up with? I don't hate it or love it, but its just...BLAH! Its So not Carrie OR Big. Looks more like a furnished apartment they'd be renting while they waited for their place to be renovated or something. No pictures, no funky art, nothing that screams "we're living it up in NYC!" here at all.

And the kitchen is ridiculous. I realize its a movie and all, but come on. The only thing that really jumps out at me is the chandelier over the dining room table.

But of course, the whole premise of the movie was ridiculous, so why would you expect anything more from the design?

Wow. I want one!! With that woodstove, I'd spend the entire Fall there with some books.

I am always impressed by how wonderfully so many DIYs come out. I'm starting small...about to try my hand at making a salvaged wood console table - and your hard work is major inspiration! (especially knowing you had a few failures here and there but in the end, finished such a great place!)

Heres to MANY years of enjoyment in your very modest cottage,

I think I said "wow" about 25 times looking at this tour.

My favorites:
- the nooks/window seats with the colorful cushions contrasting the plaster walls perfectly
- the bathroom. its just - perfect.

I imagine stress melting away coming home to a place like that.

I am working on an eco friendly and mostly reused/recycled living space ( http://justanothertreehugger.wordpress.com/ ) , but with a rented apartment, my options are so limited. This place is the stuff of my decorating daydreams!

Wow, what an amazing space.

I LOVE the tree bathroom, love the light and openness, and would probably consider selling a part of my soul for that roof deck.

I don't love the large dead thing's skin serving as a rug or the uber-modernness in certain rooms

But overall you have an impeccable sense of style and a perfect place to execute it!
