Shouldn't you at least include a link to the really well done version of this (speaker cloth to hide electronics) from the 2007 smallest-coolest contest you guys ran? http://www.unplggd.com/unplggd/small-cool-2007-entries/13-kelly-gregorys-media-wall-021673

We keep ours in big caselogic binders that hold ~300 discs each that allow you to add/move sheets and end up saving a lot of space compared to even the slim jewel cases.
Put them in alphabetically or by category for data (we have different binders for blu-ray, video games, dvds, and software) and leave the back of a sheet or an extra sheet in between for additions, and they fit on a bookshelf or storage ottoman while still being super easy to flip through and add to when needed.

I've always heard that they do a poor job at pulling away smoke and heat compared to regular vents. They may look slick and modern, but if they don't do the job they're supposed to it defeats the purpose.

With the reverse osmosis filters (because you said your family drinks a lot of water) you might want to consider the fact that they "waste" a good deal of water (varies by the brand/model, usually at least 3 gallons for every 1 gallon of filtered water), it's something I was surprised to learn about.
