I wish I knew these were coming out before I got my regular ol' multi-coloured one last year. Ah, a neutral hang-it-all, my dream come true. The Classic Hang-It-All Gets a Color Makeover I Saloni 2013 |

Actually, @surfjack, it isn't unstable if you prep the surface properly and use a high-adhesive semi-gloss, as I suggested in my comment. It isn't unstable and holds up just fine. In fact, in all three apartments that I used this method, there wasn't even one chip, scratch, or bubble to be seen in the years that I lived with the painted tile. Also, the paint color does need to be neutral if you are to paint, because you will paint over the grout. If you use a neutral color, the grout will not look strange. I'm sorry, @Parnassus, but it's actually REALLY easy to paint tile. I've done it in three different apartments in the kitchens, and it makes a world of difference! PS: Tip: try and use a neutral color that won't look strange if it covers both the grout and the tile, like white or grey. Tile Backsplash: To Paint or Not To Paint? Good Questions |

I agree. In the design profession, our work is already undervalued. On a popular design blog like this (one of my favorites!), to show that design and designers deserve compensation for the work that they provide is a powerful message. Please reconsider. The Homies 2013 Need You! The Homies 2013 |

I'm sorry to be a downer, but I must say I thought this tour was basically a tour of a bookshelf, not an apartment. There were a few shots of other things, but one or two shots of the bookshelf will do, thanks. If there aren't enough points of interest to do a full tour, then make it an article on how to style your display areas or something along those lines. Let's keep it interesting, please! For everyone who is concerned about the legality of the electrical situation in this apartment, the truth is that it is legal in most states and Canadian provinces to not have updated electrical systems, or receptacles in each room if the building is a heritage building that has not undergone major renovation. I live in just such an apartment, and there is no receptacle in the bathroom, and only two in the kitchen, both of which have a major appliance connected to them (fridge on one, stove on the other). Extension cords in the kitchen are really ill-advised, especially if you need to power a major appliance. If a fire starts because of an overloaded extension cord used improperly, you cannot expect the insurance company to cover any damage, and your landlord may actually be able to sue you for damages! So please, be very careful. Splitting the costs for new receptacles with your landlord really is your best option, just ensure they are GFCI in the kitchen and bathroom. However, in our apartment, the circuit would be overloaded if we added anymore, so be prepared to hear bad news from your electrician. Help! No Outlets in Kitchen or Bathroom Good Questions |

I was doing research about Malaria for a project I'm working on, and I came across and interesting (and effective) way to rid yourself of mosquitos. If you have standing water or a water source on your property that is a breeding ground for mosquitos, take a whole coconut, cut it in half, and place it in the water. Apparently, coconut oil is extremely effective in killing mosquito larvae. The coconut should work for an entire month at keeping mosquito populations under control. I have to be honest, I feel that this apartment lacks a cohesiveness. I appreciate (and encourage) a less-coordinated look in these apartments, but it is the architectural details, not the interior aesthetic, that make this apartment so amazing. I would like to see more discerning design choices in here, which would realize this apartment's true potential!
