Creative and functional use of the space. What is usually in the bowl in the middle of the kitchen table - there's the color that everyone is griping about :)

Great place. Pops with personality. Question - what are the letter/notes in the bathroom?

...and some quick suggestion:
- cover the phone jack (or use a blank plate)
- pattern/color on the non-cabinet wall
- legit window treatments

Creative Ways To Fill Space Above Kitchen Cabinets?
Good Questions

The space in general is not unique/cohesive. I think addressing what you want out of the space would actually help figure out what to do with the cabinets.

In other words, if you extended the cabinets or put a collection up there, you'd still have a really boring (cookie-cutter) kitchen with extended cabinets or a collection on top of the cabinets of a really boring space.

I'd define your style, get some magazine tears (or apartment therapy print outs) and decide what you want to do with the space. Right now by the looks of it, your kitchen is 2003 contractor pack... I am positive you weren't inspired by anything to get there!

I think a 20 min grout/caulk episode would be amazing. Maybe it is 2 episodes: prepping for grout and grout/caulk. I honestly regrout or re-caulk in stead of scrubbing for an hour. It is a better look and takes the same/less time.

Love the paper idea. And I love, love, love that Maxwell shows us his real life house - ie, it is amazing but not perfect (which is also the difference in video vs a picture).

A lot of quick lessons here! I love the big pattern that becomes an interesting focus, the above-bed storage brings the eye down (to the great pattern, and we all wish we had that great window for natural light!

$$$.

cool, but expensive for a temporary solution. For a less expensive, temporary solution I would outline a space with timbers, put down landscape fabric (or plastic) and fill is with a nice looking pea gravel.

I love the umbrella!

Resurrect the pulls! I miss the orange - maybe the camera is hiding something about the chair but the color and shape were amazing.

Love the wall art in the space

From far away the spoon one looks great. Up close it looks like spoons glued to a mirror. Oh wait, that's what it is... I vote find a throwback on bay/thrift store and paint it.

A M A Z I N G ! ! ! I'd love to spend the night on the deck and awake to those views.

One suggestion - swap out the 'exit' light. It is a detractor to an otherwise great-looking space!
