Awhile back I saw a little post about a Drunken Grape Tart. There was no recipe accompanying it, but perhaps you'll have better luck tracking it down, or you could even use it as a jumping off point to get your ideas flowing. I've made a custard tart with cherries stewed in bordeaux wine which was excellent in the past, perhaps you could try some kind of Muscadine dessert? http://www.thekitchn.com/thekitchn/book-journal/book-journal-drunken-grape-tart-010911

We've had cork flooring in our kitchen for at least a year now and we love it! It's got resilience so your legs don't get as tired when you're standing up preparing food for long periods of time, unlike with a tile floor. We were warned to avoid spilling water and/or leaving puddles on the floor, but so far we've had around the average amount of spills/puddles which have not always been cleaned up quickly (we have a puppy... enough said) and the flooring has been fine, no leaking at all!
Also, it looks nice in our kitchen!

I know this was posted over a month ago, but I wanted to share this with you: Awhile ago a Bon Appetit came in the mail and it included this article

Pay special attention to #4. While this may not clear up reusing your pasta water to boil pasta in the future, you can still use 1/2-1 cup of the water in the sauce. It makes a world of difference!

I am lactose intolerant as well. I find that I really love goats milk ice cream. Laloo's is one incredible brand. But at least in my area its really difficult to get my hands on it. So I find that my favorite brand of non-dairy ice cream would have to be So Good's coconut milk ice cream and their ice cream sandwiches. Addicting. But the thing is, they're only good if you like the taste of coconut, because it is a pretty big factor in there.
I absolutely hate rice ice cream with a passion. I think its disgusting and grainy and watery.
Soy ice cream is alright but it'll get a weird gummy texture on the top of it if you don't eat it all in one sitting and I'm not a big fan of the 'soy' taste that comes through in every flavor.
I've never tried making non-dairy ice cream, I have made sorbets though and they have been delicious.

Though I would have to agree with a commenter above, sometimes I give in and eat my family's ben and jerry's- it all depends on your stress level.

My house is very old and originally there were 2 kitchens! One in the downstairs where the food for the family was cooked, and one in the attic where the help slept and cooked their own meals. When we moved in the kitchen was no longer set up in the attic, but there are still gas and water lines. I've always tinkered with the idea of setting up a kitchen in there again. I sleep in one of the rooms in the attic so it would be nice to not have to go down two flights of stairs to make breakfast every day. Also, the view from the top of the house is lovely.
