It's important to remember that although both involve watching carbohydrates (and not just 'sugar' as discussed above), Type I and Type II are different diseases with different needs. That said, the most important thing I've learned caring for both my husband and my father (both Type II diabetics) is that carbohydrates are in almost everything, and they can eat almost everything as long as they're aware of how things fit into the bigger picture. Portion size is key. Portions indicated on food labels are MUCH smaller than what people tend to imagine. What's the Most Important Thing You've Learned About Cooking for a Diabetic? |

I'm 30 - husband is 27. I was taught in high school to touch type and part of our lessons were to type, very quickly mind you, text from books/pieces of paper. That quickly teaches you to type without having to look at any of your keys. The keyboard I'm using right now has almost none of its letters on the keys because they've disappeared with use. My husband, who never had the opportunity to learn typing in school, cannot comfortably use my keyboard. He becomes flustered because he can't find most of the letters. I don't remember what the rules were when I was a small tot, but the general rule of my parents' was that if the door was open you were free to come in, but if the door was closed you should knock and wait to be told to come inside. In general I think that's a good rule for children to learn, and part of that is, imo, respecting the same rules for your childrens' rooms once it's age appropriate. If it's a tradition you connect with, I don't see why not. To me it's not particularly meaningful. I'd much rather have informal pics of the kids at Christmas events enjoying them. Maybe a posed one in front of the tree or something like that. Pictures with Santa: A Worthwhile Tradition? |

Actually, I should amend that. The Gros Michel is not quite extinct, but it's nowhere near commercially viable anymore. Bananarama: How America Got to Know That Funky Yellow Fruit NPR |

Erm, not quite. The most popular variety is currently the Cavendish, and it's not yet in danger of extinction, but it quite vulnerable because, among other things, it has no genetic diversity and is sterile so it cannot self-reproduce. Routers are prone to overheating in normal (i.e. home) rooms because they're basically mini-computers with no fans in them. It's a bad idea to block their ventilation, no matter how cute the cover is. Unless you enjoy throwing down $35 every time you fry the thing. Above all, pay attention to what your doctor has asked you to do to maintain your blood sugar levels. My husband (a type II) is currently restricted from eating most pasta, rice, beans, oats, etc even if they are whole wheat, because they don't leave enough room in the meal for the other carbs (don't forget that vegetables and fruit often have carbs!). I honestly don't know what all the hate is about. It's crayons and a slow cooker; with liner bags, neither the project nor the cleanup would take very long at all. It's a nice idea for personalizing a space or giving gifts with a unique touch, and I'm sure it can be adapted even further. Dip Dye Candles With Crayons for Instant Pizzazz Martha Stewart |

I guess I should also say that I am generally in favor of having to pay sales tax, but I worry about the impact the law will have on businesses beyond Amazon. Will You Still Shop Amazon when they Charge Sales Tax? |

VJ is right on here. As usual, the piece of legislation is given a deceptive name that doesn't really cover what it does. Main Street fairness? No. Main Street mom-n-pops struggle to compete because they simply can't deal in the volume (=lower prices) and convenience of an online giant like Amazon. This is about leveling the playing field for the big brick and mortar retailers who couldn't get away with saying "we don't have a business presence in the state!" katid, 1250 sqft is by no means a small home. It may not be a McMansion (and thank goodness for that), but there's no reason to show us close-ups of the stove(? washing mashine?) clock. Lola & Eric's Sweet, Streamlined Home Green Tour |

The shots of the actual house and yes, its light, are lovely. But there were so few of them. I really don't understand "tours of houses" that are half made up of little vignette shots. Lola & Eric's Sweet, Streamlined Home Green Tour |

Don't understand the point of unused towels, personally. Nor do I understand the point of spending ridiculous money on what is essentially something to wipe yourself down with at the end of a washing. If the towels look nice, bonus, but I'm more concerned with them not falling apart after many washings. It's also nice if they don't take too long to dry so they don't get that mildew smell to them.
