This used to be a very upper class thing to do, fresh fruit from greenhouses was super expensive. And I actually prefer this sort of desert to something more processed, let the fruit shine and it is completely guilt free. On Serving Naked Fruit for Dessert |

I am a Gen Y gardener, I really don't buy much garden stuff brand new from a garden center or have the funds to do so. I think there is a shift in gardening with us younger gardeners, I prefer to start things from seed and propagate whenever possible. I tend to also recycle and get used gardening equipment (mostly boomer cast offs) when I can. Where Are the Gen X & Y Gardeners? The Gardenist |

My favorite part of Boiled Dinner is the mustard. I put it on absolutely everything in boiled dinner: cabbage, carrots, potatoes, and rye bread (CMCINNYC I totally agree with you, one of my favorite things). It is also in almost every dressing I make for salads, goes well with every spice or vinegar combination I have tried thus far - can't wait for summer to make one dressing with fresh dill and a course ground mustard with horseradish.... yum. I got divorced over this issue (and others in all fairness). I worked full time, went to school, cleaned, did laundry, and cooked two meals a day while he worked one full-time job and rarely did anything besides pair socks and put the clothes away. I can't see a ton of detail from the picture above. But the first thing I would do is probably add railing and some fragrant, floral vines (check with a local nursery to see what grows well in your area) along the lattice to grow up and over the railing. Once I had the vines started I would work on a path and vignettes. I can sort of see this garden looking a bit like a secret garden with lots of green, flowers, and statues partially hidden by foliage. How Can I Make This Old Pool Deck a Usable Space? I have a pressure cooker, so 20 minutes I go from a bag of dry to fully cooked without all the salt of canned. And you really cannot beat the price, I stock up when a pound goes on sale for $0.88 (black and pinto I buy in bulk for less than that). People really don't realized just how cheap it is to be vegan when you don't go for all the fancy specialty items, which you don't need anyways. Make or Buy? Canned vs. Homemade Beans |

Wow... your experience with Russian bathrooms is far different than mine, I studied aboard and never saw a bathroom that nice. My host's was particularly bad. You had to step over the toilet to get into that raised shower stall which had a tarp on the walls to protect them. You could also wash your hands while sitting on the toilet. eternalvoyageur I am vegan and generally opposed to killing anything, but when it comes to slugs that guzzle everything in my garden I have no mercy. So ginnielizz's sluggicide holds some real appeal for me. Besides they are non-native in North America so the less we have the better. Damage Control: Dealing with Slugs and Snails The Gardener |

Only reason I used to watch Sandra Lee was for her drinks. She is good with a cocktail, but I would never make any of her food. And since I don't have cable anymore it makes it difficult to watch any cooking shows, besides the fact that I am vegan and don't care to watch all the meat-centric cooking. @Megly, I have been vegetarian for somewhere around a decade and vegan for more than a year now and I rarely have problems with dinner parties. But really, I try to make it as easy for the host as possible. When I am invited I remind them that I am vegan and offer to bring something, so they don't have to fret about me having food. And when I host, I make my normal fare but I also try to incorporate somethings that people are used to eating with whatever dish I make. When I make tacos, I make sure there is some cheese and sour cream (and possibly some meat) because I know that is what people usually have with tacos.
