@delilah2: I cut flowers from my garden... I'm pretty sure that's not exactly an "environmental nightmare". And while I get that it can be frustrating, isn't any step in the right direction a good one?

Also, after reading other's comments: a) even several hand towels are never going to hugely affect your laundry load, certainly not if you take into account that a "large family" would have an equally large load of towels to wash already. So really, it worries me to see us trying to justify the convenience v. waste issue... isn't that a major step back?!

And b) it seems like a lot of folks are making the argument for using these occasionally for company but that is most certainly NOT how they've been marketed. Kleenex is marketing them as an absolute replacement for everyday, NOT just special occasions...

Hate. So very very wasteful. I understand the germ thing, I do, but I feel like, if you're using the towel dry your CLEAN hands and you change it out fairly often you're probably fine. I mean, yeah, if you're using it to wipe down the bathroom and then rehanging it, you're going to have an issue, but that's just common sense, isn't it?

Oooookkkaaayyy.... No snark intended. Let me rephrase: Dollar stores are an excellent ressource for kids items, in particular craft and room ideas. They happen to sell these same mirrors for 3 or 4 for about $2. A fun idea for an even better price. (better? :) )

Yeah... they've been selling these in a pack of three or four at the DOLLAR store for at least the last two years. Not much of a find for $9!

I totally agree that different people live different ways and am all about making the best of whatever your situation but I just couldn't live with my husband above our daughter... She's got one herself (to make room for babe #2's crib :) ) and I can tell you from experience that every time she shifts, turns over, what have you, we can hear the creaking across the house. So, on a practical level how would you EVER have "grown up time" *wink wink* without traumatisizing the poor kid?! loL! I'm sure a lot of people might not be bothered by it, but as a mom to a very inquisitive five year old, I wouldn't want to keep answering questions! :)

I've noticed that, almost more than confidence, being self-aware is an invaluable tool, in the kitchen, as in life. Having a decent knowledge of both your strengths and your shortcomings allows you to exploit the positives and ask for help to overcome and learn from the negatives.

Just for fun I whipped up a quick mockup for you. I changed out the paint colour by selecting your appliance colour and then darkening it, then I selected graphic black and white accessories, added texture with wicker and plants, and threw in some red to brighten the whole thing up! I also "cleaned up" a little of the clutter (broom, mop, etc.). In real life I would try to add a small black or white lamp like this one from Ikea. You can check out the results here! Lemme know what you think. Perfect? No. Cute and cheap? Yup!

I made this for my own wedding! Seriously, hair in rollers, dress hanging behind me, out on the deck, grilling tenderloins for 85 guests! LOL! But it was DELICIOUS and only took me half an hour to prepare meet for that many people. Win!

This is kind of embarassing but I love me some Royal Reserve rye. It's quite sweet and delicious. And it comes with a free sticker on the bottle to help decorate your dorm fridge (I kid. About the decorating. The sticker thing's true.) It's great as a mix and supa smooth. And I'm from Alberta so we've got our picks of ryes.

My MIL has a chicken that routinely lays perfect, pistachio green eggs... Honestly how is it even humanly possible to resist the Green Eggs and Ham jokes? We also get all of our beef from her teensy farm.

mmmmm.... Curry and holubsti (Ukrainian stuffed cabbage). So stinky and yet so good! I actually kind of hate the smell of boiling cabbage but it's like I've tricked myself because even while my eyes are watering from the stink, my mouth is watering in anticipation of the deliciousness to follow! lol!

Survey: Do You Like Stinky Foods? | Apartment Therapy The Kitchn

I catered my own wedding for 95 people last year... The most important things I learned were:
Make a thorough inventory of what supplies, utensils, baking dishes, etc. are available to you. Afterall, you need a LOT of baking pans, serving dishes, knives, etc. to cater an event like that.

The best idea we had was to do a cold buffet. It was serving hot foods that REALLY would have complicated things.

I wish I would've done the prep two days before instead of the night before... it would've still been fine (in terms of freshness) but took much longer than I had anticipated (15lbs of strawberries to slice and hull is a LOT! lol)

Simple, delicious, seasonal food will win out every time. Fewer, better ingredients both saved time and effort and ended up costing less in the long run.

I also make a "cake buffet" which I made ahead of time and iced the morning of... it might sound crazy, but I kept the decorating simple and rustic and concentrated on making things delicious instead of "perfect".

This is the exact problem I've got... A simple solution for me has been to use pretty baskets. I've got a LOT of ugly things tucked into matching wicker baskets, all easily accesible and organized. Oh, and I took the doors off my above-sink cabinets... I have to keep it "prettier" but it also provides more visual interest in my teensy kitchen without extra clutter and keeps things we use all the time super accessible ie. first aid kit (yep, we're "those people"), dishcloths, recipes, change jar, bread bin (which used to take up a MASSIVE amount of counter space.) I actually use this technique all the time to make cute toppers for cupcakes, but I actually use melting chocolate which ends up MUCH stronger than icing (and I find it tastes better!). Last year I piped simple "S"s in white chocolate onto waxed paper then sprinkled them with sanding sugar before they set. Voilà! Sparkly perfect toppers in NO time!

Lazy cabbage rolls! Layer kind of like a lasagna: sauce, cabbage, "filling" (my family makes meat-less ones with just rice, butter, garlic, and LOTS of onion, but feel free to add ground beef or pork), more cabbage, more sauce, and bake... SUPER delicious and easy to make ahead and freeze for family dinners.

I find pepper flakes are a GREAT way to keep animals off your lawn and out of your garden. A light sprinkling does the trick. Basically, they go to sniff for a spot to "mark", give an "oh HECK NO!" look and then take off. As far as I can tell it doesn't hurt them, it's just a nuissance.
