Sheesh people, lighten up! I think it looks great! Just because something is "old" doesn't mean it's particularly high quality or valuable. Even if they get a few seasons out of this before getting rid of it, it still beats the environmental impact of buying new wood to make a new planter, or buying new plastic (or whatever) planters.

Plus, I imagine the dresser top would be a great place to rest a couple of nice cold beers :)

As a Vancouverite, it's so nice to see BC represented on AT. What a gorgeous place. Welcome to the province Brian! You'll love living here :)

You're exactly right. :) As soon as I'd typed my comment, I felt funny about my "speculating." I just had to say something in response to another poster's unkind/unthoughtful comment, and couldn't express myself as well as you did.
Isn't is a beautiful room though? I keep going back to the pictures and wishing that it was my bedroom. It looks so relaxing and serene. Great job ladies!

@HouseBee et al:

Perhaps this is a cultural thing (ie: a daughter living with her parents until she's married) or perhaps, as others have suggested, the room just needed to be updated for her when she's there, and as a guest room when she's not. It could also be a financial thing (living at home to save up for a down payment). Either way, it's not for us to judge her "priorities," and it's a beautiful transformation!

I have a complete set of Lotte dishware that my parents picked up at a flea market in the 80s and I love it. Like dunklekatze said, I wouldn't trade it for the world!

You've done a fabulous job. Your home is gorgeous, and so personal. Your style works so well with the "bones" of the place. I am definitely saving this tour for my inspiration file!

I've been a long-time AT reader but finally signed up for an account so that I could comment on this lovely home. I really like how you've created a cosy, comfortable space that still remains sophisticated and clutter-free. It's great to see Canada represented on AT and I will definitely be bookmarking this for my inspiration file!
