I love your style, probably because it is so much like mine! I'm in CA, but visit my daughter, son-in-law and new granddaughter on the Hill regularly. I will borrow the car and we will shop! I want to know every little consignment boutique, thrift store and flea market in a 25 mile radius! I drool over CL in DC due to the huge variety if cool stuff this very transient population has to sacrifice when they are suddenly transferred to London ;)
Keep up the good work!

Beautiful, calming space for a not-so-calm city! I also placed my sofa partially blocking entry to to kitchen. It adds much-needed dimension and interest to a small space. Bravo! Thank you for the tips on where to shop. I'm in CA, but my kids live on Capitol Hill, and I just go crazy for CL there, but it's always nice to browse in person.

I don't know why I get such a kick out of this thread, but it is just so entertaining to see that everyone is an individual with their own personal likes/dislikes. Once I started listing the viscerals, I realized I had never verbalized any of this before. It was quite the list! The really great part was scrolling down and seeing some of my favorites disparaged(ORANGE), beautiful rugs on boring carpeting, popcorn(kidding!)
I loved Rose123, who is never having anyone over again, and Lulu32, whose rant on Househunters was spot on.
Design geeks are a breed apart. My friends think I am probably not human because you could bounce a dime on my bed(made everyday), but my 12 year old truck is always covered in dust, with a filthy windshield, and dirt and gravel on the floor and the bed, because I'm always hauling plants and furniture(did I mention all the scratches on the paint?) I could not care less about this as long as I keep the oil changed. I've dated guys that parked so far from the restaurant/theater/store to keep their precious vehicle from getting dinged, but back at the house, sticky bathroom floors and pouffy leather couches with head oil stains were A-OK. And guess who they call when their new beer pong table won't fit in the back of their Mustang/BMW/Escalade?
Keep those comments coming, folks!

Oh!!! And cats on ANY surface where food is prepped or consumed. I saw one house tour here that actually made me nauseous. I don't care how much you love your cat, we all know what they use their paws for.

Okay...
Overhead lighting, odors of any kind, be it bacon, bachelors or bloodhounds. Corral(or firing squad)furniture placement, fake plants/flowers(always dusty). Anything handcrafted(Laurie, I'm being polite here)in the 80s and 90s, art hung(too high/ crooked/crowded/from Ross). Gigantic television screens(especially over the fireplace). Fussy, over-the-top chintz rooms(can't tell the bed from the wall from the wingback from the drapes). Messy beds(that are supposedly made, seen here on AT). Avon bottle collections, anything from the Franklin Mint(how are they still even in business?!) Holstein/southwest(except in Santa Fe)/kountry, especially in the kitchen. Can you say goose dishware? Crocheted anything. And let's not omit poor, dear departed Thomas Kinkade.
Phew, that was cathartic...thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

Love love love! That dining table and benches! Everything just makes me want to breathe in and breathe out. The garden is fabulous; mirrors and other indoor elements(dishes, stealing that!)make the transition from indoor to outdoor seamless. Forget the Olympics, get me a ticket to Beckenham ;)

I see the comments pointing out the obvious have been removed. Since when has anything but gushing reviews been excised from the forum? The real world is apparently too cruel for one so cosseted.

My own mother passed when I was just two...my dad, who just recently joined her, was a dumpster diver. I believe he became an auctioneer so he could more effectively "gather". I recently down-sized and swore that I would NOT keep bringing home this&that. You know how that worked out.

You can bet Anthro Corp. has outsourced their labor, slashing costs, while raising their prices, ie., profits. Then they take the ca$h and bankroll the candidates of their choice. Sigh. So unoriginal. Let's hear it for Etsy and all the talented, creative artists out there with a great forum to offer their wares to the discriminating consumer! Love all the finds here...makes me want to spend the next 4 hours doing the same type of "reseach".

The Outer Space patio is the only one that seems inviting to me. The coldness in most of them is perhaps what cityfolk qualify as nature. Sad. As a former independent nursery manager and garden designer, I am keenly aware of design issues that can constrain a garden area, but it seems as though these designers forgot the point of a garden in the first place.

Just voted, but not for the one I wanted to win. ;) It's a pleasure to be able to return to your beautiful space and enjoy it again. My kids live on the Hill and the rowhouse has it's own challenges. Can you suggest some antique/consignment stores you like? Congratulations again on your talents.

Love all the plants that ALSO love that bath! :) no home is complete w/o plants. The curtains between kitchen/dr and bed are great. Very nice space!

I now understand the phenomenon, though I have never set foot in one of their stores. CL has SO much IKEA, half-priced and preassembled, I may never go. Plus the six to eight hour roundtrip keeps me from making impulse purchases brought on by "I can always return it if it doesn't work" thoughts.

Love everything. You made my day. So many entries have left me scratching my head(really?). The color combo is to die for. Chinioserie is my favorite. You are exceptionally gifted. When I visit DC to see my family, I'd love to see in person! Too pushy? :)

I was just looking at a great frame with a not-so-great print in it I bought at a second-hand store. This is a fabulous idea!

Truly a standout space. This is a winner in every way. I have never had the nerve to try reupholstering anything beyond a dining chair. You are giving me courage!

Beautifully done. I can't say there is anything I would quibble with. I'm going to steal your "I'd rather be thrifting" theme! A refreshing change from the tired Eames era rehash. If I see another Noguchi coffee table/Eiffel chair or rocker, I think I'll scream. It's nice to see some 'sparkle' and fabulous style, and thrifting keeps you out of danger of overdosing on the tired favorites from the big boxes. Anyone can go to Ikea/Target/PB/DWR and fill up a cart. Plus, thrifting is SO much fun. For me, it's all about the hunt! FAB-ulous! Game over; I'm not even going to submit now...maybe next year ;)
