I made a gluten-free Thanksgiving last year on the fly. Any homemade Thanksgiving is dead easy to make gluten-free. I have no idea why folks thing it's such a big deal.

Free range heritage turkey. Skillet stuffing made with homemade cornbread and sausage. All the usual vegetable side dishes, cranberry sauce, etc. Fruit pies with flourless crusts, and ice cream! No one would have even noticed it was gluten free (and peanut free, actually).

If you are actually making Thanksgiving dinner instead of buying it from Stop & Shop, gluten free is pretty much a no-brainer. It's so strange to me that folks panic when they can't use gluten, even though a typical Thanksgiving menu is meat and vegetables... just baffling.

I'm sure it's this illogical panic that keeps the expensive gluten-free prepared foods companies in business!

New favorite for mixed drinks: Bluecoat, from Philly. Beautiful bottle, too.

Not the best for a G&T (much mellower botanicals) but great in cocktails you don't want to be too floral or piney.

I have some of these. Some bugs manage to get in anyway, and then you have tacky screens that just look... dumpy. Hate 'em. Definitely not nice to look at, despite that happy lady in the picture. There must be a better way!

A whole field of citronella? Burning candles 24/7?

Or, you could deal with the bugs. I find frequent sweeping vacuuming helps, or just looking the other way.

When you make cheese yourself, that lovely white mold is delightful, not gross... because if you're anything like me, you've been peeking under the wrappings every day for a week to check and see if it's started to grow yet!

And yes, "poil de chat" refers to the bad (bad, very bad!) black fur that grows on cheeses (which really does resemble hair, not like the fluffy white mold in the healthy cheese photos above). A Google search turns up all kinds of nasty examples. Eeeyuck.

Vers Audio makes great cases for the iPod, iPhone, and iPad. They are made of sustainable wood, and for every tree they use, they plant 100 of 'em.

Plus, they are sexy. Nothing like a nice, natural wood finish.

Oh, and their docks are so beautiful, and get incredible sound. I would compare it to a similarly priced Bose system.

My husband and I are serious cooks (he does it for a living), and we have an itty bitty kitchen in a studio apartment.

Instead of a full sized or even half sized oven, we bought a (cheap!) Cuisinart countertop oven. It is only a bit bigger than a toaster, costs less than $200, has convection settings as well as regular bake, toast, and broil, and is lined with brick for excellent pizza, bread, and pie baking. It can hold a pie or a whole chicken, no problem. It's only a bummer when it comes to baking big batches of cookies, but we've managed to throw dinner parties with no problem.

Not using up all that under-counter space with a full sized oven also means we have extra shelving and storage, which is key in this tiny room.

And even though our counter space is limited, I won't part with my stand mixer. It's a big, bright Cobalt blue KitchenAid which ads to--not detracts from--the look of the space. And it makes ice cream. 'Nuff said.
