This is a great concept, but if it were put into production it'd just be a recreation of one of Apple's biggest blunders: the iMac puck mouse. Even worse, it's smaller.

But wait! Two small ideas that could help make it work:

1. A "mouse for kids" that would encourage X minutes of activity every so often. It might sound a bit infomercial-ish, but with the right marketing it could be the next Koosh!

2. A a regularly shaped mouse shell that sits over the yoyo device. Pop the shell off, yo-yo and recharge. Snap it back on and you're good to go!

Personally, I'm just really glad they didn't try to combine the "Shake Weight" with a mouse this time around.

I agree with MandaPanda. I buy for the extra features. The commentaries are often worth the price alone. Ripping them just gives me the movie (which I still do so I can occasionally play them in the background) but I'd never get rid of them. Actually, I often hope Apartment Therapy would do a series of posts on creative optical media storage. :)

Side note: If you're not a fan of movie commentaries, I suggest watching all of them for Seven, Fight Club, and Anchorman. You'll love those extras when you're done.

I love my ThinkSounds! I have a set for work and another set I carry around, and I got my wife a pair as well. I've also recommended them to several friends, and everyone loves them. I haven't found anything in this price point that sounds nearly as good.

I actually just came across this last night and thought it looked neat:

I haven't tried it yet but the concept seems sound.

Once I made the switch to internet-only TV, I made my TV computer (a Mac Mini) do double-time as a web server. I have a Drobo (not the one pictured, I have the vanilla USB 2 one).

I share select folders as password-protected web directories. Being a web developer helped me in this department, reducing my dependency on third-party sharing solutions.

I handle all of my music with Subsonic, a fantastic way to put all your music in the cloud without all the restrictions of the existing cloud-based services out there. (Bonus: It also can handle most movies as well.)

Anyways, just my $.02.

Regarding #8: If turning on the A/C, make sure the outside temperature has been consistently above 60 degrees for at least 48 hours before turning it on. Otherwise you run a pretty good chance of burning out the A/C motor almost immediately.

And I'd also like to chime in about using a home inspector. After taking a first time home buying class I'd never risk buying without one. A few hundred bucks is definitely worth it when you're about to drop a couple hundred grand.
