If anyone is truly offended by a card they received, they should probably reassess their priorities in life. Or you know, get some.

In a perfect world, we'd all spend weeks hand crafting one-of-a-kind multi-denominational holiday cards out of recycled paper, coffee grounds and gluten free macaroni. But let's get real.

Personally, the fact that you sent me a card is awesome. Thank you to all the card givers out there.

Ahh the Darth Vader house... Houstonians either love it or they hate it. Personally, I love it.

There's a photo in the comment thread here:

@ KPAUPAU

Fellow Houstonian here - I've been told that the fireflies can't withstand the stuff the city uses to spray for mosquitoes.

I'm thankful for a working A/C, nightfall, and covered parking :) Is it October yet?

What Do You Love About Your Home in the Summer?

I'm surprised by the number of people who want absolutely nothing to do with their neighbors. When the last big hurricane blew through our town, one side of the street had power and the other didn't. The rows of extension cords spanning the street made it very obvious who had bothered to meet their neighbors and who hadn't.

Thank you for this post! I live just outside downtown Houston and I love how the landscape changes as you travel west across the state. Graceful old oak trees turn to rivers and rolling hills, and then you reach the wide open desert dotted with mini-mountains bearing names like "Lost Mine Peak" and "Sawtooth Mountain," and it's so quiet out there you think you might be the last soul on earth. It's a long drive, but well worth it.

Hmm. I find myself generally confused by the myriad of categories, as it seems like there's a lot of overlap. For example, DIY and RENOVATIONS. Does that mean DIY is limited to small projects (but wait, there's already a category for small spaces), or can DIY include large-scale renovations? Also, what's the point of the STYLE category, and what on earth does HOMEKEEPING mean?

Point in case: Under HOMEKEEKPING we find an article about whether shower curtains should be long or short. Under STYLE we find an article about what color should I paint my living room. The choice of which article gets put under which heading seems pretty darn arbitrary.

While I appreciate the attempt at freshening up the place, the old site was simple and easy to navigate. In the spirit of so many AT posts about getting rid of clutter and creating space (both mental and physical), I think this is a step backwards.

Wow, I had no idea this was such a bone of contention! It really must be regional, as I grew up in the South, and I don't recall anyone taking off their shoes when entering another person's home. Truthfully, it seems a little presumptuous... I don't want to see your feet - thanks but no thanks on that one. Why not help yourself to whatever's in the fridge, then flop down on the couch and unzip your pants while you're at it? And a dinner party where no one is wearing shoes just sounds plain weird.

If I lived somewhere with snow, I might feel differently. I do visit Canada once or twice a year, and most of the houses I've visited are "no-shoes" houses. I can understand not wanting folks to track snow and mud into your house. Or maybe Canadians just have prettier feet.

@jejuneraccoon

Who ever said it was a trend? People have been celebrating Dia De Los Muertos for pretty much forever, including (ZOMG!) decorating their houses! Relax and go get a cookie or something. Sheesh.

Austin and the surrounding hillcountry are beautiful... and I appreciate that Austin's new City Hall was designed with an armadillo tail. However, I must take exception to the first sentence of this post. I offer the proposed revision:

It's around this time of year that anyone living in Texas [stays indoors until dusk and begins praying for an early fall].
