I work at the corporate headquarters of a major beer company and as such - we have a pub in our office (just as awesome as it sounds!). The backsplash is tiled with round, cobalt blue tiles and about every 6 inches or so is one of our bottle caps. Looks amazing and everybody comments that while it is clever and makes sense for a beer company - it would look great anywhere. Sorry I can't include a pic!

I would agree that white on the wainscoting is ideal...and I think that a very pale pink on the walls would be perfect! Pink has the added benifit of making everyone look glowy and amazing! Nothing too Pepto Bismol of course...and I also think it would be great with your black accents! Great work!

Lot's of good points here - as someone who lived in LA for 17 years and just last year returned to Chicago - here is my two cents:

I can't fully agree with whoever said "don't do it", since I actually had a great time for the most part, but know this: LA is a whole different ballgame than Chicago. The ONLY thing LA has over Chi-town is the weather. It's an industry town (which I worked in) with more than it's share of just awful, awful people.

$1200 a month will be tough on the Westside (anything not in the Valley), and whoever tells you different hasn't gotten an apartment there recently. Venice, SM, Culver City - all GREAT places to live, but you are looking at a minumum of $1500. I am unfamiliar with Long Beach but keep in mind - Long Beach is not a quick trip to LA.

As stated by others, for sure go for a long weekend, rent a car and drive around...and be ready to pounce immediately on a place should you find one - they go quick.

I have gone on too long...! Good luck!

Ouch! I guess I'll skip this lamp..because I have the Saarinen table and Eames Eiffel Chairs and LOVE 'EM! =) God forbid one become "predictable" to AT readers! I'll keep at it though and hopefully you'll see my pad on here - sans Knappa lamp!

I am lucky enough to be friends with this amazing guy - and just want to make you all aware that this is the SAME dude who totally re-did the LaPorte, IN school house for $100K (featured here on AT), and that includes the property, building and EVERYTHING in it.. He'll kill me for saying this but - he IS a design god!

Right you are minimalist1750! If you haven't seen this awesome documentary on Julius Shulman, you can catch it on Sundance Channel...not to be missed!! I was lucky enough to see it at the Palm Springs Film Festival a couple years back and also got to attend the reception at the Kaufman house...a dream!
