I too dream of a country estate, but a pretense of actually doing any work on it is not part of the deal - the dream definitely includes a gardener on the payroll! (And an indoor staff as well, but that's another story...)

Thanks for the informative column, as I was totally unfamiliar with Dickinson. And with a few of these pieces, I have to admit that if I had seen them in someone's apartment, I would have judged them less as "whimsical" and more as "tacky". But now, I will be prepared not to be so gauche in my inner monologue!

I can't decide whether Banquete would be cozy to snuggle up into, or horribly lumpy and uncomfortable. As for the Vermelha chair, I don't think the texture of rope would be the most conducive to relaxation after a long day. I don't even know HOW you're supposed to arrange your body in the sushi chair in image 6, but whatever you did, you probably wouldn't look too elegant doing it.
