Ikea BESTA!!! Totally customizable, and (I think) attractive and affordable. My husband doesn't have 10,000 LPs, but we have 2000+ plus at least 500 CDs (probably more), and we just had this BESTA system installed: http://www.flickr.com/photos/47937624@N00/6737085171/in/set-72157628321336779.

It was a great compromise - a way to get his music into our main family/living space (he was previously exiled to a 3rd floor room) - but in a way where it doesn't overtake our room.

This set-up uses twelve 15" tall units (which PERFECTLY fit an LP; or using a shelf to divide in half fits 2 CDs) (each unit = Width: 47 1/4" x Depth: 15 3/4" x Height: 15"), although there are many other size available that you can customize to your space. The whole thing in this configuration cost $1250.

Having just renovated an old (100 yr old Victorian) house, including the living room, we thought long and hard about how to place the TV, and ended up with it above our (unused) fireplace. Got a tilt mount to minimize neck strain, and so far (3 months) no issues on that front. Thinking About a TV Above the Fireplace? Pro Tips to Consider

We just moved into a new (old) house, and thought long and hard about how to integrate my husband's multi-thousand LP collection in our fairly minimalist decor living room (previously, he had been cast away to a 3rd floor "music room" but we wanted to create a shared space everyone could enjoy, i.e., music for hubbie, no clutter/LPs overwhelming the room for me). With a custom-installed Ikea BESTA system, and a media console from West Elm, I think we succeeded!

LOVE! (I particularly love the Orla Kiely wallpaper; I have the same in the multi-color in a bathroom).

How timely - I've been renovating an old Victorian, and just yesterday had the outside of our claw foot tub painted a dark gray - it looks awesome! (we had the inside re-finished, and it looks brand new).

So I have almost the exact dilemma - will have a couch facing the fireplace, and will probably mount the TV above the fireplace. Here's my question - where do you put the TV extras - i.e. the cable box/DVR? The DVD player etc.?

Good luck with the choice. I'm also renovating a (West) Philly house (a twin) and there are just so many choices! - Kelly

I've got a dog who likes to pee on our bed, so I can attest to the fact that a down comforter can take a machine washing (or 10 or 50)!

Two words: suite hotel (i.e. Embassy Suites type). Its made a huge difference for us. We've also improvised in non-suite hotels when our (now 2 yr old) daughter was younger by putting the pack and play in the bathroom, or even a little luggage nook. At least that way, you and your sig other can have the lights on/talk/watch TV etc. But yeah, traveling with a kid ain't like the old days ...

We live in Philly with our 2 year old - neither hubbie or I are burbs sorts of folks. Although I will say as our daughter has gotten older, and her stuff has spread more and more into our (small-ish) row house (which, by NYC standards, is actually quite large; the space just isn't very user friendly for a toddler), I can see the appeal of space - indoor and out. But we're staying put!

I have an iphone and it can be a great distraction when my 2 year old is cranky . . . I would LOVE to find a good case for it that COVERS or locks the home button. Since its my phone, I just use a screen cover and regular plastic case, which has protected it from toddler mishaps (and my dropping it a hundred times). I saw those adorable ifrogz Tadpole kid-case for the Classic, but its not for iphone or itouch. http://ifrogz.com/products.php?cat=341.
