Wood. If anything, I think the transition from hardwood to carpet is more visually appalling than different stains of wood. Either match the stain or go with an obviously different stain to add visual interest.

Carpet or Hardwood in Bedroom?
Good Questions

Are there any "before" photos? I'm asking because the post title has the word "facelift" in it.

Anyway, this kitchen isvery lovely. It's got personality and is full of personal touches. It does look a little cluttered, but for some reason, it works. Must be because everything seems to have a home. The concept of having a mirror above the stove is interesting, although I'd get freaked out every time I see myself cooking! Not having any cabinets on the walls really pays off. You can have as many shelves and hanging rails, rods and hooks as you want! The credenza is just gorgeous! Lovely, lovely kitchen overall.

By the way, the rug is so intereseting! I read on your blog that you painted it, tell us more!

I loved the old candybar phone that I could just stick into my back pocket comfortably. It's the reason why I haven't upgraded my phone in years. Still waiting for the perfect candybar phone to make it's comeback. :-/

Lukeswife, Rosebudy and JNS, thank you for the info and the links! I will definitely read those articles.

And the reason I asked was because I thought I remembered reading something in Marion Nestle's "What to Eat" book about eating too many eggs will indeed raise the level of your dietary cholesterol

Besides rthe obvious and regular sanding with 0000 steel wool, placemants, coaster, what else is there?

(What about the unhealthy fatsand high cholesterol in the egg?) I love avocadoes and I love eggs, but I usually avoid a very heavy breakfast like that one. :-/

I do have a question though, how is it that the avocado holds up in the heat?

Type in my first comment should be "Are."

I made some veggie pancakes using Bittman's recipe. I gave them an Asian twist by using different seasonings and vegetable ingredients. I also added days old rice (that had been refrigerated). You really can get very creative using a very basic recipe. They sure are yummy too!

Ire the names pancakes and fritters interchangeable?

Anway, I think that Mark Bittman's vegetable pancakes call for less "pancake" ingredients than this one. See here: http://content.markbittman.com/recipes/vegetable-pancakes

We don't keep major electronics in the bedroom, like TVs or laptops. We have one red light lit radio-alarm clock (that we only use for knowing the time) on his side of the bed--so it bothers me none. :-D

Also, the bedroom is the only place where we still have incandescent lightbulbs. If I want to read, my light shouldn't be a bother to him, plus my lamp shade is a bit dark. If I use my pad for reading, I use the lowest light setting.

The only thing that bothers for sleeping is the window. I need new curtains because the ones I have now are so cheap that the sun's bleached the solid color from them for years now. A lot of light does get in and then, also, we need a third because two aren't enough to cover the width of the window sufficiently.

So windows. Make sure your windows are well covered to ensure a good night's sleep!

I'm not sure how that is a real kitchen solution, but rather an aesthetic solution. My parents have space between the cabinets and the ceiling and they make use for it by storing attractive bowls.

I like the look of the "new" kitchen. It's very clean looking and feels fresh and current.

However, I do think the "old" kitchen had a lot of potential. I liked the color of the cabinets--they could've been updated by changing out the hardware. Painting the pink walls would've helped make the look more modern, and of course, changing the countertops too.

My friends and I are all in our late very late 20s. I dunno if it's an age thing, but whenever we have something at our place, they all insist on helping with cleaning up the tables and the dishes. I have this one friend who's always do the dishes without me ever knowing because I was so busy entertaining and picking up!

If it were a formal dinner with my parents or his parents or someone older, I would not allow them to help clean up.

OK, I will correct myself.

I just researched it and broccolini is a cross breed between regular broccoli and Chinese chard. It is also trademarked by the Japanese company that developed it with the name Chinese kale.

Broccoli rabe is from Italy, also known as rapini. It appears to be more leafy?

I was about the ask the same question as VINTAGEJENTA. How are broccolini and broccoli rabe different? Is this one of those things where they use the name from a different region to make it sound fancier? (Which has always bothered me!)

From my experience, broccoli rabe is more bitter than regular broccoli. I had "broccolini" at a restaurant a couple of weeks ago, and although the way it was cooked was super delicious, I could still taste it's bitterness, which was more than regular broccoli. I don't recall any sweetness with broccoli rabe either.

We're spending the day at the park on Sunday to celebrate my birthday while the whole family and close friends. I live in South Florida so it's not uncommon for people to be grilling at the park year this time of the year. The menu is simple and light: grilled weiners on buns with toppings, grilled whole potatoes, grilled veggies and fruits with a balsamic glaze, Jamie Oliver's raw beet root and pear salad, fresh berries with condensed milk and nuts, tuna pie, chips and salsa and whatever else a few other people are bringing. As far as drinks go, we're sticking to water, beer, Sweet Tea and Italian sodas.
