Great big boy room! We also just transitioned our 2-year-old son to a rocket ship-themed "big boy" room this weekend to make way for our next child.

natemne - the mat is by Tadpoles - we had the same one.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I should mention that as of late 2010, both France and Belgium have banned foam mats due to "toxic formamide" and "reproductive carcinogens." We don't use ours anymore, and of course now I feel great about my son gnawing on those mats as a wee one.

The very first "must-have" that we had to shake was the single family home. We found a condo in Boston (1st and 2nd floor), that suited our needs, and the stairs are key to making it feel like a house despite still being a condo. We also let go of a 2nd bathroom AND driveway (street parking isn't TOO bad on this street, but now with a toddler and one on the way, I would love off-street parking). All 3 of these things are on our must-have list when we move again in a few years.

We don't hang art over the crib, either. My husband painted a fantastic mural instead. Other options are decals, a tapestry, etc, etc. Hang the art in other parts of the room!

I, too, really don't like that not all 4 sides are slatted. Most nights, my son (now 2 and a belly sleeper) ends up nestled against the short side of his crib. This one is just a sheet of plastic...I wouldn't feel comfortable about his air quality!

Love the idea, don't love the execution.
Also yes, drool.

LOVE this! Also, pretty sure that is not a twin bed, but a toddler bed (so essentially the size of a crib).

Diaper genie, wipes warmer, bottle warmer, pack n play, and most of all, the infant/bucket carseat and snap n go thingies. We had a big convertible carseat from day 1 and did just fine.

I'm surprised at the rocker/glider hate! I feel like my bum has been planted in that thing for 18 months! I *still* rock my son in it before bed every night (even though he falls asleep in the crib on his own afterwards). I think it's the one thing I couldn't live without - especially in the first 3 months with frequent nursing sessions...

Nice list! Love the nostalgia-inducing 70s and 80s toys.
Ugh, ditto on the gross Bratz dolls. I am a little shocked that Webkinz didn't make the list. My son is too young for them, but all of my nieces and nephews are/were obsessed! Why is the 00's list so short? I mean, we're in 2011 now - it was a full decade!

I voted Zoey! I love that there are so many homemade elements and I find her room is cozy, warm and bright...somewhat sophisticated, yet still appropriate for a child.

As a side note, as a Mom of a baby boy I find it interesting that only 3 of the 9 finalists are boys rooms (and frankly I didn't consider voting for any of them because I found them either too cold/stark or too grown-up). I wonder if the votes are generally female-leaning because it's mostly moms on Ohdeedoh...? How many of the 67 entrees were boys rooms?

I voted for ROSIE'S room! It was no contest for me. It's just so bright and cheery and age appropriate - love the yellow with turquoise and excellent use of wallpaper, patterns, textures, and architectural elements. And after finding the mama's blog and learning that so many of the elements were repurposed and DIY - makes me love it that much more. A unique and happy space for a lucky little girl!

I am so in love with this room! Vibrant, juicy colors with an awesome combo of patterns and textures - and so happy and bright. AND age appropriate. Rosie is a very lucky little girl! Would love to see your other children's rooms as well!

Very sophisticated for an 8-year-old, yes - but totally lovely. I adore the powdery blue with red accents...reminds me of Sofia Coppola's staging of Versailles in Marie Antoinette (in a very good way)!

I agree with some of the other comments. While the color palette in this room is truly delightful (I gave it a thumbs up - how could you not?), it does seem overly sophisticated. This room would be divine for a 16-year old, but for a 4-year-old? I completely get designing a room that can grow with your child but this is a bit much. Also, I much prefer a DIY-angle, and this screams expensive designer showroom. I would be terrified of markers and juice coming within yards of this space.

I love love love this room! The bright yellow is so juicy and warm and happy - just what a child's room should be! I considered myself yellow-averse until I realize that it was just some pale yellows that made my stomach turn. We painted over some sad yellow shelves in our nursery, but I wouldn't have done a thing had they been as bright and cheery as your yellow wall!!!

These are so fab! Who knew that the Mass state insect was the honeybee?! I guess we're not that special though - I'm counting at least 12 states with the honeybee as their state insect.

Amy Ruppel's stuff is fantastic. I purchased one of her owl prints from Tiny Showcase last year, and it is quite lovely.
