I've been recycling my books for years. Once a year I'll go through everything, save the ones that I truly love a have reread over and over, and the rest get donated to the local library. I've recently bought an e-reader so going forward, I'll only be buying hardcopies of the ones that really mean something to me.

Good call on painting two of the walls gray. When I was that age, my dad painted the whole room purple (including the ceiling). Hated it within a year; 30+ years later, I'm just starting to like purple again. :)

Cute, but it would have been better if someone had told him beforehand that J is usually pronounced as Y.

Given my fear of heights, innate clumsiness and history with stairs, any of these in my home would be a guarantee of future broken bones.

Eames chairs and Parsons desks. I don't care if they're "classic", to me they're just plain ugly. And anything Mid Century Modern. The 50s are over, people.

I'm bracing myself for the impending flame war.

There are several churches in and around Baltimore City that I would absolutely love to convert into a home. Or a brewpub. Possibly both. :)

I notice most of the responses are coming from people who are only cooking for one when the husband/partner/SO is away. Cooking for one three times a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, ad infinitum, is just waaaayyyy too depressing. Especially when you're not very good at it to start with.

I wish I could get my place together in time to submit, but I just don't see it happening. I am looking forward to seeing the entries. It's inspiring to see how others have tackled small space issues.

So aside from the Gyllen, do you have any suggestions for those of us who can't afford $200 for a single lamp?

I concur on the kitchen island, especially since your counter space is so limited. For your craft area, how about an Expedit with the desk attachment? It would give you a workspace, storage and would create a "room" that's walled off from the rest of the space.

I've had my Billys for over 20 years, changed the shelf configuration a zillion times, even fell off a ladder through the back of one (yay, duct tape) and never had a single shelf begin to sag.
