That courtyard embodies the best of the Pasadena look. The greenery is so lush and the whole effect just oozes calm and sophisticated. That's why I love living here (though my backyard isn't nearly as put together). On a side note, the Rose Bowl Parade starts at the corner of Ellis and Orange Grove. :)

That looks fantastic! I'd love to experience that some day, though I do wonder how they made sure you're not roasted in there.

What I'd love is a home that looks and feels relaxed and lived in but underneath was fantastically technological. I love the idea of customizing my environment to respond to my needs, but I'm not a fan of the untra-modern look that seems to be a requirement. That first image is quite impressive though.

I really love these! The lamps look very contemporary but the piano scrolls are such a fun throwback. This is definitely going on my wish list. The pattern of light is beautiful.

@ Skaterjo The Flowering tree in pic #32 is a Gabriel's Trumpet. It is beautiful but it's also highly poisonous. Just so you know.

I know it's really simple but I love a good Blue, White and Yellow
My suggestion is:
Main in Sherwin Williams Outerspace blue
Trim in Benjamin Moore Silver Satin
Door in Benjamin Moore Showtime Yellow

And stain the wood a natural deep walnut color. I love walnut stain against blue and white!

Such a shame! It was so beautiful. Do you have plans to replace it? What type of tree was it anyhow?

I just moved into a place sight unseen too. I'm a graduate student in Pasadena and I did a ton of research into the districts and neighborhoods of the city to narrow down where I wanted to live. It turned out wonderful! My place is just what I wanted and the surrounding area is just perfect. It's exactly what I was expecting. It really pays to do your homework.

Close to shops, quiet street, detached garage, 1920's craftsman, hardwood floors, french doors, laundry room, tons of windows, authentic fixtures, 1000 square feet. All for 1200 a month.

I wanted a place I would be comfortable living in for the next six years while I completed my doctorate. And that's what I got. Thank-you craigslist.

Just be sure to get as much information as possible on every detail. Some landlords are very understanding if they know you're coming from far away and can't see the place. It never hurts to ask.

The desk really does look great, but I loved that original dresser too! I kinda wish they didn't have to cannibalize such a great piece of furniture from the get go. Still though, love what they did with it. Props to you.

I was raised with my grandparents until I was ten in a inner city house in Pittsburgh perched at the very top of a big hill. It had a great front porch that had a huge old wooden porch swing. My grandmother and I would always sit on the swing together, she would knit and I would read.

I was a light sleeper as a child, so whenever there was a big thunderstorm at night I would want to climb into her bed. Eventually she decided to break me of being afraind of the thunder by sitting on the porch with me and counting out the lightening to know how far away it was. I loved it.

It became our tradition so that no matter what time of night, if there was a storm she'd come wake me up and we'd suggle on the swing under a blanket with hot coco untill we either fell asleep or the storm past. It is one of my most favorite memories of my childhood.

When she passed away a few years ago she left me the porch swing that we used to sit on. It's packed away in my attic till I have a house with a porch so I can pass on the tradition with my kids. I love porches too. :)

My grandmother was a wonderful lady.

I pilfered an old weathered mailbox from an abandoned house in the country. I turned it upright and use it as an indoor planter. Absolutely love it. There is something so strong and simple about it and it has such great character. Love my mailbox it brings a little bit of suburban living to my apartment.

I just ran across this post. I moved out of my First Apartment yesterday! It was a two bedroom, three bath craftsman dream. I found it after moving off campus my sophomore year at college. There are so many wonderful firsts about the place. So many great college memories. It's really hard to day goodbye. It was so weird leaving the key on the countertop and knowing that when I shut the door it's wouldn't be our apartment anymore...but I'm reminded of one of my favorite Dr. Seuss quotes: "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."
My lease was up and I'm moving out to California for grad school in 6 Weeks. I know it was time.

To new and better apartments.
