No comments on the way things are pronounced, but the name is "Sheila," not "Shiela". Unless you're saying I should be calling people SHY-el-a.

We've done the curtain thing for all the closets in our house (except the foyer coat closet and the hallway closet). I like the look much better, it saves a crazy amount of space (no need to leave room to open a door), and there's less risk of our toddler smashing his fingers.

Lydia, you don't sound like your value your friendship with the person having the baby. Why go at all? Send a card and a gift card or something and call it a day.

We stashed a lot of them for our fourteen-month-old. We do this throughout the year, too...switching things out so he doesn't get bored.

Thanks, everyone! I'm currently watching him crawl around with orange plastic cups left over from his birthday party, which was in October; he was born a week before Halloween, so we had a Great Pumpkin party. Too busy having fun for pictures, though!

Pyjammy, you have the triplets, right? Excellent names for all three! Our dude is definitely a Linus.

Pyjammy, you have the triplets, right? I remember reading about them. Excellent names, all of them, but especially Linus, of course. ;) My Linus is mentioned a few posts up for his first birthday.

My niece has a Stella doll and she carries it everywhere. You could also get a crocheted doll; if it's made of acrylic yarn, it can be washed.

My Linus, who is almost fourteen months, was drawn to the really soft Cabbage Patch Kids, so we got him one of those. We got ours at Target, but here's a link to Amazon so you know what I'm talking about!

It's appalling to me that some parents decide to not invite a child to a party rather than do what they can to accommodate. Did these aforementioned parents ask the parents of the child with the allergy what they could do? I understand some allergies and dietary issues are life-threatening (more in a bit), but it's a party and as the host, you serve your guests. Sad, sad.

My ten-year-old stepson is a type one diabetic and while most of his friends' parents know this and provide diet drinks, etc., for him, I always bring a Diet Coke or Diet Sprite or something. As far as food goes, my stepson knows to call with carb information, check his blood, etc. One of my sisters-in-law has Celiacs and the other is a vegan (because of reactions from chemo), so we always make sure to provide lots of fresh veggies, etc. And they provide things we like when we at their homes. One of my stepson's friends has Aspberger's and severe allergies and I always call his parents and give them the proposed menu and they bring to the parties additional treats for him.

Truly, in my opinion, if you aren't willing to help your guests, you should rethinking inviting them.

You didn't say how old your twins are or what the allergens are. But in my opinion, if children are mature enough to get their own snacks, they're mature enough to know what they can have.

My ten-year-old stepson was diagnosed with type one diabetes when he was six (not the same as allergies, but still life-threatening). He was taught what has carbs and what doesn't. He can eat all the meat or carrots (etc.) he wants, but if he wants something that has carbs, he has to one: ask and two: check his sugar and three: know how many carbs are in what he wants.

I'm a bit put off by your want of "stylish" options for keeping people safe. Talk to your family. Find a system that works for you. Who cares what it looks like? No ones going to look inside your fridge or cupboard.
