Wow. Katie. Gorgeous work! And beautifully said too. Pink is such a loaded colour isn't it? My little guy loved pink ... until the kids at pre-school told him he wasn't supposed to. Why does a colour need to be so darn complicated?!

From an aesthetic perspective, it's also tough. But there are a lot of different kinds of pink to choose from ... maybe one you can stomach seeing on your masterpiece? And maybe they are only highlights instead of the whole darn thing pink? Just a thought! Which I'm sure you already thought of.

Good luck!

I think we should also keep in mind that this father is a filmmaker. So, to me, it makes total sense that he would share his video project publicly. And I for one, am happy he did. I see it as a beautiful document of some of the wonders of childhood (and parenthood). But it doesn't make me feel like I have to do the same and share it publicly also.

I appreciate all your comments. Well said. I just want to chime in on my thoughts behind this roundup. I see these projects/activities as ways in which we can understand and celebrate the earth; that by observing nature around us (point 4), or watching our own garden grow (point 3), or reading about the wonderment of spring (point 5), or even learning about what our planet is made of, we learn to love it and appreciate it ... and that's the basis for taking care of it. I believe. These projects needn't be done instead of transferring litter from your street to the landfill. But I think, especially for the younger ones, that developing a sense of wonder about our world adds to their overall education about Earth Day.

I would change the old adage to say "if you can't say anything nice, do it better yourself". I want to live in a world full of people coming up with ideas, being creative, and taking risks. Let's all spend our energy doing that! And high five-ing people who do it too. In contrast then, let's spend WAY less time and energy tearing down the creations of other people. If you don't like it, your real contribution in this world is to do it better, not to point out its flaws. That's just cheap and easy and not getting us anywhere.

It turns out, you don't have to clean them after a cold. Because you can't get that cold again. In fact, the Dental Association says that going the extra mile on cleaning your brushes just shortens their life span, and is, in most cases, unnecessary.

allisen, I'm definitely with you on that one. I felt there were some gems in that list though. I'm working on my own list, using the above links as thought starters, and leaving out the offensive or irrelevant ones for sure. I certainly don't see it as a "one list fits all" situation. No way! ; )

Holly the Craft Pirate, have you tried the town's tourist information? Before we went to South Africa we emailed the tourist info there and they mailed us all sorts of books, pamphlets, maps etc before we left. Not sure if Italy would do the same but it's worth a try.

ruthie144, I acquired this particular material that was used for a large event in my home town. I think there still are a few things for sale here and there but it may be that most of it is sold out by now.

You can try searching for Vancouver 2010 banners or fabric for sale. If it seems a bit pricey it's because people also want it for nostalgic reasons.

Hope that helps a bit.
