It likely tastes fantastic, but it LOOKS amazing. Very pretty!

I do believe sugar is toxic. But that's a very broad sense of the term toxic. I also believe that alcohol is toxic. In that our bodies process it as such, trying to eliminate it quickly. But is it inherently bad for us?

NO. WAY. In small amounts, any healthy body can tolerate alcohol and even benefit from it. Sugar maybe less so; I can't think of any benefits of sugar at all, but it's certainly not toxic in small levels unless you have a metabolic disorder. Some bodies don't like it, fair enough. But the problem is that we eat way too much of it in our culture. We need to really take a look at sugar being more appropriate for occasional use rather than an every day mainstay, which is clearly is right now for the majority of people.

@MISSFIFI - I agree. When we re-did our kitchen, the one mistake we made was putting in an accessory shelf/built-in right over the stove. It would have been fine but at the last minute, we had to change stoves (the one we'd bought was literally the last of that model we could get our hands on and the delivery people dropped it in the middle of our street.) So when we put our new stove in, we had problems immediately with heat reaching the bottom of the two shelves. I'd intended to store spices on that shelf, but now it's truly an accessory shelf with some pitchers and occasional heat-tolerant flowers. Sigh.

Live and learn, at least it LOOKS pretty. :)

I agree with the others that mention the lack of before pictures as making it hard to tell exactly what we're looking at. Though the after looks like an amazing job and a huge improvement, regardless. It looks sleek, clean and really well done.

I think it's really interesting that the downstairs, "public" part of the home has (at least to my mind) a totally different style/feeling than the upstairs, private areas of the home. And while I really responded to the upstairs, I felt like the downstairs was almost stuffy or over-styled. Almost as if it was decorated as a public space, which is really a contrast to the more personal spaces of the home.*

Dead animals aside, I didn't NOT like it, I just thought it was interesting.

(I really need a glass of wine. I'm the most inarticulate person in the world today.)

Neither of which is my style, but I totally appreciate the transformation and I do think it's an improvement and a really cool idea. It looks like it was also well-executed, not just a cute idea that someone threw together. It really works and looks like some real thought went into this one. Well done!

I'm kind of laughing at the sentiment that a baby's room should reflect the baby's "style."

If people took this to heart, we'd all have had rooms decorated like the inside of a uterus.

I like the way they look, but living in California, I can't imagine having anything with swinging, glass or metal detachable parts over my head in the middle of the night.

@jondominion - one person's yawn is another person's lovely. Is that really all you came here to day, that you hope this person's taste in flowers is better? Please, at least be a bit more original with the snark.

Wow, that was not what I was expecting at all! I love the rug and I do think it was over-accessoried (looks like a retail showroom rather than a real kitchen to me.) But I think if you were to take about 10% of the accessorizing away, it would be just about perfect...I do like the way it flows into the next room a lot. And the colors are really warm without being too chaotic.

This is an amazing home. For the first time ever I think I'm JEALOUS of a home's owners. This is really stunning and you guys did a fantastic job of keeping true to the home while really making it shine. You should be congratulated heartily and very proud of yourselves!

Really nice transformation. I love the white wood and I think it's a good choice to keep it as a little detail. The before was a bit much. The after looks soothing and still has a LOT of character. Nice!

I think this is such a sweet little kitchen! I really love it. It looks functional, like every inch works and makes sense and I love the white since I think it makes it look cleaner, bigger and probably helps showcase the food as it's being cooked and the pretty flowers Krystle buys every week.

This is a really, really nice example of how small is beautiful. Nicely done, Krystle!

@sealbeachy - Crazy lady was clearly making a joke, if you took the time to read more than her first line. A joke I thought was funny.

I'm glad they changed it. It needed a facelift. And they DID stay true to the midcentury aesthetic, despite what people are seeing here. Did they do a literal, boring and costume-y re-do? No. But that's what renovations are about; changing things to a more modern sensibility without losing the character or style that informs the rest of the house's look or feel. They succeeded, despite the comments here.

I like the way these rooms look...in someone else's house. I love to see color in the bedroom in photos, but when it comes to escaping into my own, personal bedroom and space, I like a lot of white linens and soothing, neutral colors. I have a lot of color in other parts of my home, but I just find white soothing when it comes to getting into bed and relaxing.

To those who think the "no color"-ness of the room is an issue, consider that infants can focus much easier on black and white and it's pretty common to design for infants using solid, dark colors and white in graphic shapes and lines since they are highly visually stimulated by it. As they age, they get more adept at seeing colors and being stimulated by them, so perhaps that was the the thinking here?

Also, I don't think babies can differentiate between adult and baby aesthetics. And if they can? We're in trouble.

Les Indiennes is incredibly expensive and I realize it's on the "high" side of the "for every budget" in this article. I have a couple of pieces from them that I really like, but that I got on sale and they have lasted a lot longer than some of the stuff I've bought from Cost Plus and Pier 1. Having said that, if you're the type of person who wants to commit to a block print for the long haul, that might be good for you. If you want a small accent piece, it makes no sense to spend an arm and a leg getting something that is readily available and doesn't need to hold up to wear and tear. There are plenty of $10 pillows out there that will give you the exact same look.
