I'm curious about the walrus. Is it a bean bag chair? I think my daughter would LOVE it.

I did something similar with the tent Ikea used to carry that looked like an igloo. Except I used extra bedsheets and my sewing skills are rough, so our tent has more of a "shabby chic" look. This is beautifully done! And I love the inside pocket.

I've been obsessed with almond butter mixed into yogurt. Makes a quick, super tasty, and filling breakfast.

I like to think of pale aqua as a "neutral". So many colors look good with it! Orange, yellow, green, blue, red. Use them all in small amounts with lots of white, or choose one or two.

We have a tradition of having oatmeal (with nuts, fruits, butter and maple syrup) and beer (usually some kind of winter ale) on Christmas morning. Delicious and special!

Ha! We have a tiny apartment, so at first I didn't get a rocking chair. Once we got one, I wondered why we had waited so long! My daughter responds really well to being rocked to sleep..

fresh.air's suggestions are great! I would also add, once the baby starts crawling, having a relatively baby-proofed room for everyone to hang out in. I find when we are at someone else's house I spend most of my time chasing the little one around so that she doesn't grab/chew on/throw/otherwise destroy something. Putting breakables (or anything you dont want the baby playing with) up high, blocking off TV/DVD players, hiding remotes, etc. can allow the baby to safely explore a new environment, and give the adults space to relax and enjoy socializing.

When my daughter was born, I bought a big jug of Dr. Bronner's Baby Mild Soap. We use it for every thing- bath wash, shampoo, diaper area wash, even hand soap. Depending on the use, I add various essential oils for antibacterial purposes.

aspenchick- the pilates ball is moved out of the way when not in use. the room is the middle room in a railroad apartment, and the only open floor space is in front of one of the doors. There wouldn't really be any space to move a rocker out of the way.
heatherk- good to know! i hadn't actually tried one out yet.

I work in the conservation lab for a library, so I totally understand the desire to preserve this wonderful book while still being able to read and enjoy it. I would suggest NOT using any kind of laminanting film, as this doesn't prevent the paper from deteriorating, and it is impossible to remove.

The suggestion of digitizing the pages and having it reprinted with added content is great, and not very expensive. If you chose to do this, I would also recommend storing the original book in an archival box (http://www.lightimpressionsdirect.com/ ). Also, if you chose to disasemble to book into scrapbook, make sure the pages materials are archival, and that the original pages can be easily removed.

If you wanted to use the original book, I would suggest locating a book conservator in your area (http://www.conservation-us.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=Page.viewPage&pageId=495 ). Although this can be expensive, conservation work can greatly prolong the life of a book. Perhaps your daughter could read this same volume to her grandchildren!
