I recently moved from a bigger city, where I had a large, fun and tight knit group of friends to a smaller city that I group up near, where I don't feel like I am clicking with as many of the people I meet. I think moving and finding the friends that are right for you takes time. I got a dog - that really helps me meet neighbors (especially since he's a friendly dog and heck, he's my friend!). I also try to get involved in organizations where I think people of similar interests may be - the local co-op, an urban gardening organization. Usually friendship develops slowly but organically in post college years. I hope I find a group here like my former town. But until I do, I will be patients. One issue I seem to always encounter is blossom end rot - when tomatoes grow fine, except the bottom turns brown and leathery, and eventually rots. The answer to blossom end rot is calcium - I will crush up egg or clam shells and amend my soil with it to fix it, but usually not before I have lost a few otherwise lovely tomatoes to it. A plea from a guest - register for some stuff that isn't crazy luxurious or expensive. Many young folks have tons and tons of weddings to go to as all their friends tie the knot, and while I love my friends, and want to give them all lovely gifts, it becomes a financial burden. I want super nice pottery barn towels too, but if I can't get them for me, I can't get them for you - though I'd love to! Also - acknowledge if you already have a lovely kitchen full of nice gadgets and be green about it, you don't need to throw out your perfectly good coffee grinder just because you have an opportunity to get a new, nicer one. I recently moved in with my boyfriend after a year and a half of living alone. I miss long indulgent bubble baths, eating cookies or crackers and cheese in bed, watching really, really bad reality television, letting my cat sleep in the bed, playing the clueless soundtrack loud as I cleaned the apartment, singing along. And I miss the courage that living alone gave me to go bother my neighbors. I lived in a house where close friends and not so close but very nice friends had apartments, and I would just walk around seeing who might like to bbq with me that night, or if anyone was hungry for the dinner I had just made. Having someone in the house doesn't force me out as much, and maybe I miss out on new friendships! The Joys and Drawbacks of Living Solo |

You really don't need much space to garden. I kept a lovely container garden on my fire escape roof landing in providence,ri and had a huge haul. It's all about ingenuity. My friends keep two dogs, and four chickens. Plus many cities have community gardenings orgs if you have no space for even containers. Also- Providence is a great city for 20 somethings (I'm one). Rents are super low compared to other nearby east coast cities like Boston and NYC. Best Cities for Urban Homesteaders on a Budget? Good Questions |

I rented my latest apartment full of optimism. It was perfect, with one large and one small bedroom, a nicely updated kitchen with a dishwasher! A big dining and living room, and backyard access. However I didn't take into account that if I could smell smoke from the downstairs neighbor in the summer, it would only get much much worse in the winter. Though the apartment air seemed fresh and clean when I looked at the apartment, the smoke seeps in through every entry point - especially my under the sink areas and closets (so gross!). This shop is one of my favorite places to just go walk around in. It always is so interesting and eclectic but cohesive! Also - Providence especially is progressive with a capitol P. Here here RIer in exile! Uncommon Style: Tyler Doran of Heir Inside Man | Apartment Therapy Boston |

I love when you do Providence tours! I live in Pvd and the apartments are so old and unique, I love seeing how different residents work with interesting Providence spaces. Torin's Thrifted Family Home House Tour | Apartment Therapy Boston |
