@CreativeImagination Wow I am totally humbled by the the kind things you wrote!!! I truly appreciate all the positive comments! This final look is definitely the result of trial and (LOTS) of error. Earlier versions and accessories make me cringe. :-)

As for Picture 3 - The object on top of the banana tree bark box is a stereoscope from the turn of the century. It's basically a old fashioned 3D viewer! Normally a card with two pictures spaced 2 inches apart on it would be placed at the other end and when you look through the lens gives
the illusion of depth (I have some of the cards but I don't leave them out on display - maybe I should!). The cards are fairly common in antique stores but he viewers, in good condition, can be harder to come by.

I've added a link describes it better than I can - with pictures :-)

@wgoldman I'll pass on the compliment to him :-) Unfortunately I don't think he's planning on selling copies for a couple of reasons: 1. He's worried about copyright / licensing issues with Lusasfilm - he'd need to investigate the legal aspect more 2. He wanted to make me a one of a kind piece for my birthday.

However, the author of this House Tour posted a quick guide to making something similar DIY if that helps: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/sf/portrait-of-a-collectiondiy-inspiration-118333

@Sitaray11
The couch was called Brooke (from Crate and Barrel) and the fabric was Flourish Celadon. I don't think they sell it anymore but they may still have the fabric.

@Sitaray11 Sorry it took me a few days to respond. I truly appreciate the compliments - so nice of you to take the time to comment! The couch came from Crate and Barrel and the rattan side table (which actually opens up for storage!) came from Ikea.

I'll try to find you the exact names and links for both items (if they are still available). The couch was a custom upholstery job and I believe the fabric was called celadon.

Thanks again for the kind words!

@travelerdc thanks! I've tried really hard to make it a relaxing place after work. Unfortunately I don't know where the flooring came with the place years before I moved in. I'll see if the owners know. :)

@ acaj08 - The stools were a great (inexpensive) find at Bed Bath and Beyond of all places. I wanted a coffee table but everything I looked at ate up too much floor space in the living room - I looked forever! I finally decided to buy the stools and put serving platters I found at Ikea on top to make a convertible coffee table - and they fit perfectly! People appreciate the footrest when we're not using them to hold drinks :-D

@OCJen The mirrors came from Crate and Barrel from a few years back. They have something similar on the site now:

As for the pedestals in the corner, they are reclaimed teak and I got them from a local store in Chicago called Jayson Home and Garden.

The pots and vases came from a variety of local independent stores here as well but I can't recall which ones specifically. My favorite are the tiny little votive holders covered in cork :)

@vix vax - I'll ask my brother but I think he said he turned down a lot of people in his firm when they saw him making them :-) I'm like to think I'm a bit of a stealth nerd and this is just one instance of my inner geek showing ;-)

@ centrd Wow thank you so much. I'm really flattered :) I'm obsessed with pigeons as well. They always make me smile when I watch them on the train platform going to work. I mentioned the print in an earlier post - I saw one I liked in Domino magazine and searched for while until I found this one recently at West Elm. It's a little more commercial than I would have liked but it just fit so well and was really cute!

@ tenbar - Thanks so much! I got the table/cabinet from Ikea and they still sell it - in fact a friend of mine just bought one this weekend! It's actually meant to store shoes but I use it for kitchen supplies.

It's Width: 37 3/4" Depth: 6 3/4 " Height: 35 3/8" and I think it comes in a few colors - $100

@ -jenny- Hi Jenny! I just realized I overlooked your question - sorry about that.

The bar cart is actually an antique kitchen cart - I wanted something smaller than the typical bar cart to save space. I got it for a steal ($25!!!) at the came from an antique show here in Chicago - Randolph Street Market Antiques Show

http://www.chicagoantiquemarket.com/home.asp

The seller had a few different kitchen carts that she was selling and she has a store on Etsy - retro2gogirl.esty.com. Her store may not be up yet but she mentioned that she was trying to get more of her inventory online.

@stealingideas Thank you! I got the shoe cabinet at Ikea a few years ago. I just checked and it looks like they are still selling them. I loved how slim it was - perfect for a narrow hallway. I use it to hold kitchen supplies since it's right off the kitchen. :)

I wanted to thank everyone for the compliments and taking the time to give feedback - so many kind words :-)

It's inspired me to try to tackle that guest room I can't seem to get around to.

@ lolitos You are so sweet! Thanks for the kind words.

I wish it were an original. I've been looking for something like it for a while. I saw something similar not too long ago in the now defunct Domino magazine (the one with Julianne Moore on the cover) and I thought about having my brother make one for me.

I actually found this one at West Elm recently.

@ merbot Hmmmm. Not sure why they aren't there but maybe this will help:

they've had them at the store a couple of years now around the holidays.

@ Coletta My brother made the Star Wars art for me. He’s a photographer/graphic designer and he took all of my old figures and shot them like portraits in his studio – good guys vs bad guys. It’s a one of a kind and it reminds me of the hundreds of times I watched those movies growing up :-)

@ thorndale I got the bench from Itaglia in Lakeview. They had a great sale and it was half off! Sadly, they closed a few years ago. :-(
