I don't wear outside shoes in the house. However, I have purchased 2 pairs of Adidas gel cushion flip flops and slides that I never wear outside - they are "house shoes" bought for the express purpose of comfort while cooking. I was seriously considering the gel mats, but they are expensive and often ugly/don't fit in with the rest of my kitchen decor. I was very happy when I realized I could buy gel cushions just for my feet. They work like a charm to prevent feet fatigue and back pain.

When I purchased my immersion blender, I only imagined making pureed soups. But now the thing I use it for most often is salad dressing. When blended with my Cuisinart, a mixture of honey, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil will stay suspended for several days (kept in the fridge). My other favorite dressing to make is blue cheese - just buttermilk, a little mayo, a hunk of blue cheese, and a generous amount of black pepper.

Yet another vote for getting some decent shoes. After looking and looking for gel mat rugs that weren't either super expensive or completely hideous, it dawned on me that I could just get some gel padded shoes. I have 2 pairs of Adidas gel-type slides - 1 pair are flip flops for summer, the other are slides for winter. Just another option if you aren't into the look of clogs or Birkenstocks. I can now spend all day in the kitchen with no pain in my feet or lower back.

And I don't like wearing shoes in the house, so I have just made sure that these never step foot outside.

Basil gin and tonics are the way to go. Basil muddled with a few squeezes of lemon juice, add gin, add ice, top with tonic - summer drink perfection.

Balsamic vinegar from Modena. A bottle each of the 12 and 25 year aged - liquid gold! If anyone is looking to do a tour of a traditional balsamic vinegar operation, ie. in a private home, I highly recommend Acetaia di Giorgio (just Google it).

I'm guessing the drink shown was topped up with a good deal of club soda? It seems like it would take a lot more than 2 oz of gin to fill a Collins glass, even with all the ice.

Not that there's anything wrong with a tall glass of gin, mind you.

Ack! Sorry for the spelling error - it's burrata not buratta.

Just bought from 3 "honor system" stands this weekend in southern Lancaster County, Pa. - 1 Amish owned, 2 not.

I wish people would stop forgetting that fat is an important part of our diets. We need 60-70 grams per day give or take. I'll happily spend some of those on a delicious and natural product such as butter.

Chemical laden foods, hydrogenated oils, and items made with more than 3-4 ingredients (especially those I don't recognize as food) are what disturb me.

What it really come down to though - butter just tastes sooo much better.

I'm wondering if all the Hendrick's lovers out there aren't true gin lovers? Boyfriend and I did a blind tasting of several gins and Hendricks came in dead last. Why? Because it doesn't taste like gin is supposed to taste - too floral and cucumber-y. That being said, I like the stuff just fine for certain cocktails.

Plymouth is by far my favorite - it's very smooth. Perfect in a martini.

Citadelle is actually very nice too. Who knew the French could make a good gin? The Brits better watch out.

1. Plymouth gin martini, with just a splash of vermouth and two blue cheese stuffed green olives

2. Gin and tonic - with muddled basil and a generous squeeze of fresh lemon

3. Negroni - shaken with ice, served straight up

4. Margarita - again, shaken with ice, served straight up in a salt-rimmed glass

5. And lastly, I think I'll second the Earl Grey MarTEAni
