I LOVE that this is for a boy!

@KCAT- you were BRAVE. I, too, became a parent through adoption and I was just thinking how nice it would have been to have a shower BEFORE becoming a parent. But I was too afraid the adoption would fall through to have friends and family celebrate before placement. I had my son for a couple of months before my shower so I really didn't "need" anything (everything you "need" I'd already purchased). Plus I'm too much of a control freak to leave picking out a car seat or even a diaper bag to others, lol. So the book party was perfect for us!

May I suggest a formula party for mothers who can't breastfeed, lol. Those bad boys are like $25 a pop, by far my biggest expense!!!

@KatieEstelle- BUUUT, AT has articles on adult housekeeping. Even whole series on it. I've put a lot of those tips to good use. So, why would it not be appropriate to discuss kids and housekeeping, too?

Who/where are all these kids who don't watch TV? I don't know any of them! I'm trying to raise a well-balanced child who will grow into a well-adjusted man (I think people forget kids become people.. like REAL PEOPLE). Therefore, there are very few things that I forbid.

Also, it's interesting that people who seem to be getting advice, suggestions, or whatever from the internet would not see it's value for their children...

The Baby Einstein Lights & Melodies Mirror (use it EVERYDAY in the crib, car, and pack n' play), cool mist humidifier (Crane Frog), rocking chair (vintage), and 3-4 crib sheets on the bed at one time. AND despite all the things I read that said I didn't need them, I've found the following to be invaluable in the middle of the night- video monitor, changing table (Ikea Leksvik), wipes warmer (winter baby).

These comments are so funny. People are just so negative! How can anyone have a problem with a post entitled "Embrace Your Child's Dreams"?!?! Or a room that clearly encourages a child to use his imagination- I mean, the "stretchers" are made out of cardboard boxes for goodness sake. WONDERFUL ROOM! I need to make a more creative environment for my son. Thanks AT.

Hummm... you must not have had any other kids at this party. I can't imagine allowing my kid saying/reading we're going to a "bad ass" party. But we're admittedly a little more prude than most. Glad you had fun though!

Love it, love it, love it! Listen peeps, this is a great idea. It's an ALTERNATIVE to conventional thinking and that's always appreciated (thanks AT).

BTW- people tend to blog in extremes. Just because you like this idea doesn't mean you child will ALWAYS fingerpaint in a bag or NEVER get messy. Just sayin'...

YAY! You're in DC!!! Ok, ma'am! I'm going to figure out how to email you without posting my business for all to see. We should hang out (says the scary stranger on the Internet), lol!

I'd like to know if they are as heavy as most glass containers... they are a BEAR to transport, especially for little ones...

Man! I wish these included geographic locations (like the room tours). My family totally needs to hang out with another black family who named their kids Hendrix and Jagger.

Even though you're clearly cooler than us, let me know if you're near the DC area :)

AWESOME!

I never comment on these birthday posts but Miss Camille is ABSOLUTELY beautiful!

My daughter was getting stuck too. But I noticed she wasn't actually HURTING herself and she very quickly learned how to dislodge herself.

Now at 14 months, she actually prefers to sleep with her limbs out of the crib:-)

We tried the mesh ones but the fit was never tight enough and I felt that was even more of a strangulation risk than the regular bumper. She could easily grab it, pull it down, and possibly slip under it.

I think the thing to remember is that babies do not sleep like adults. They don't need blankets, heck, the don't even need to be laying down. They are also ok with laying against hard stuff that would be uncomfortable to us. Just my 2 cents...

Ok, I'm a foster parent and I know children who have been taken away from parents that say the same things these parents say.

But because these yahoos have money, they're ok to raise kids????

I swear I wanted to call Child Protective Services on that mother from last night who didn't want to actually touch her child.

In the real world, that's called neglect!

I'm a foster mother and this is SUCH a good idea when new little ones enter my home. This would be a fun way to get them acclimated to their surroundings.

@ Drumville- I think the problem people have is the COUPON FRAUD that at least one of the people profiled seems to be doing (Google it), the mixed up priorities (kids sleeping on top of food?!?!?), and, like the person above me stated, possibly depriving people who really NEED a jar of mustard because you are hording them all in your stockpile.

Other than that... no judgment.

HIL-LARIOUS that according to the package, this curtain "harness(es) the sun's energy to illuminate dreams" and "foster(s) childs deep daytime sleep while sparkling their imagination". Ummm... who wouldn't want their kid to have a sparkling imagination?!?!?!
