In college I stayed with a French friend in Paris. Her ten-year-old brother offered to make dinner for us one night--he roasted us a chicken, by himself, like he was making a PB&J. They start them early on the gracious living there.

It's really sad that the expandable Parsons doesn't come in white. I'm a big fan of the Thrive Quintus too.

I had a room painted very dark grey by a professional using BM Aura. It looked incredible, but even he said it was difficult to keep a wet edge, and he had to thin it with something. As a newbie DIY-er, I'm nervous to invest so much in paint and then have it look crappy because I don't know what I'm doing.
Anyone have experience painting with Aura?

I just used a Sur La Table gift certificate to buy a lot of sensible food storage canisters, and I feel super grown-up now that my flour, quinoa, dried fruit, etc is neatly organized in bins in the cupboard, instead of thrown in a pile of bulk-foods bags.

I definitely get a little compulsive about shopping online for house things, even boring things. I can look at 15 pages of rugs or cabinet pulls or lighting fixtures no problem, even if I don't have money to buy them. It wastes a lot of time, but in the grand scheme is a pretty harmless way to numb out when stressed.

We just decamped SF for Berkeley. We were able to buy a sizable (if slightly run-down) house in a lovely part of town, after being resoundingly priced out of our beloved Bernal Heights. We've been amazed by how much better and more interesting the food is around here, and how much CHEAPER it is to eat out and go grocery shopping. I wish we'd made the move earlier.
Living in the city is fun when you're young and out partying all the time, but after I got old and boring I didn't feel like the trade-offs were worth it anymore.

I'm diggin' it. That gold-tone wood was kind of boring and fake-rustic. It's much more fun now. Good work!

I have the lady version of the Wicked Good slippers and I love them so much. I even considered buying a pair for my partner but it's too creepy to think of us puttering around our house in matching slippers.

I'm struggling with the combination of a limited budget and a new house that needs EVERYTHING. Spending $50 on lighting fixtures, which we need, seems like it's taking $50 away from curtains, which we also need, and rugs, which we also need, and new gutters, which we also need, and seismic retrofitting, which we also need... and pretty soon spending that $50 on earrings instead seems like the easiest option.
