Another use for a dimmer is when you are entertaining. Last thing you need during a pit-stop after a few glasses of red is to see your reflection under 1000-watt fluoros. I put up the decorations on the weekend closest to December 1st, so that meant today! Growing up my parents had a real tree and it didn't arrive until mid-December to make sure it survived the Australian summer 'til Christmas Day.
