Thanks so much for featuring my work.

@bkk: I just watched that episode during a West Wing marathon - my husband and I totally lost it!

I'm with Steph: I don't have enough drawers to justify using one for junk.

Like Parimosa, we use one in our linen closet to store medicine and first-aid.

Another use for a dimmer is when you are entertaining. Last thing you need during a pit-stop after a few glasses of red is to see your reflection under 1000-watt fluoros. It's also helpful to be able to touch up your makeup in similar light to the party so you can tell if it's dark enough.

Agreed on all the other tips - if only I actually had any surface space!

I put up the decorations on the weekend closest to December 1st, so that meant today! Growing up my parents had a real tree and it didn't arrive until mid-December to make sure it survived the Australian summer 'til Christmas Day. I don't think Christmas decorations should be up any later than New Years Day.

I go for a certain colour scheme each year with my Christmas tree, so I use ornaments of other colours as bowl decorations.

Ack - mine is the same! It's like a clutter magnet... mail, handbag, half-finished projects, water glasses, you name it.

We don't have a landing strip as such, but I put a lidded bamboo bowl on the sideboard to contain wallets, iPod, sunglasses, loose change, keys etc which does help prevent the dining table get even messier.

Ah, the shoe's on the other foot. I'm a bit over reading about pumpkins and "fall" decorating. Bring on the summer ideas!

Wowza! The open cabinets with wallpaper lining was a stroke of genius and I love the subtle wall colour to tie in with the rug.

After killing many pots of herbs, I invested in self-watering pots when I bought some mixed lettuce plants.

I have a mirror in our tiny courtyard and it is great for increasing the sense of space and light. It's behind an ironwork feature so it is subtle.

@ Matt and Daniel: Mine has not been damaged by the elements. Just make sure you use stainless steel bolts so they don't rust out.

Couldn't agree more.

I don't think there's one specific item that is essential though. I think it's whatever reflects the personalities and passions of the people living there.
