There are working rotary phones all over my house- for the adults to use though. The handsets can be a weapon in the hands of some children! Also if they get pulled off of a table or dropped they can really hurt someone.

Okay, my last comment was taken wrong. I have had so many people give me wrong information and/or little or no help with breastfeeding difficulties, so that's why I believe accurate breastfeeding information could have helped a lot of those moms. I never said they were lazy, or even implied that. I think it's a lot more work to bottle-feed.

If you honestly did your best with what you had and the information you were given/found on your own then that's it- you shouldn't feel guilty. If you do, turn it on the people who didn't help you and change things. I believe guilt enslaves women in our culture way too much.

You guys are cracking me up with all the different uses! What about just installing a removable shower-head sprayer in the tub? It would do the same thing for all the other messes besides the diapers and its usable lifetime would be greater than the one for the toilet.

I cloth diapered my first and am currently cloth diapering my second and have never felt a need for a sprayer. Frankly if the poo is not solid it washes out and if it is solid i just flip the poo it into the toilet. I let my washing machine do the hard work for me.

Ummmm, where are the parents? We keep all expensive/hard to replace things up and away and keep an eye on the kiddos pretty much all the time. With that being said of course stuff happens- but I would never let my children think my things were more important than them.

Also my boobs have never looked better and I have been nursing for approximately 4 years!

megatroid I was reffereing to the normal way to feed a child, not the normal way a community does it. I am sorry you are unable to nurse, but you cannot get me with your guilt-trip. I had a severe injury 10 years ago which left me unable to walk without crutches or a cane for almost 2 years. Never once did I feel ashamed and guilty that I could not walk without assistance because everyone around me had no trouble doing it.
Yes, the unfortunate reality is true, however I disagree with you entirely about the point. Information about bottles and formula are everywhere, whereas I find accurate and up-to-date breastfeeding information very hard to find. Maybe the 80% of mothers who bottle-feed could have really used breastfeeding information instead.

notyou PPs never said anything negative about botttle-feeding moms. If you read into my post and got something different that is your problem. I have been a working nursing mom for over 5 years. I use bottles and I have had to supplement.
I posted because I am tired of our culture referring to bottle-feeding as the norm and it seems like this article does the same thing. I just expected a little more form a "green site."

No doubt- I'm surprised breastfeeding wasn't even mentioned except the standard line "breastfeeding is best." Powdered formula can be contaminated too. Don't forget the melamine in China. Why not list all the contaminants that can be avoided by breastfeeding?

Dex makes a great rail that fits platform beds. We have one on our Heywood-Wakefield platform bed and it works really well for our co-sleeping family!

I agree with honeyhaze. Have you seen the crib recalls just last year? Scary. I will always feel safer with my babies sleeping next to me. Dr. James McKenna at the University of Notre Dame's Mother-Baby Sleep Lab thinks so too. He has brought a lot of research to light on this controversial (in our culture) topic. SIDS is almost unheard of in countries where infants and mothers share sleep.

No one here has mentioned the fact that the US has one of the highest C-Section rates in the world (maternal mortality) and on one of the lowest breastfeeding rates in the world (infant mortality). I don't have a clue why. These two things are more important than taxes or daycare. If you are dead you can't pay taxes or work.
