I have the same problem with the space I moved into a few months ago. Still trying to figure it out. Right now I have a bunch of art down the hall and a big mirror at the end which is a nice touch.

I have learned to NOT put up large pieces of art in the hall because when viewing, you naturally want to move back to view it, but you can't so it feels a little claustrophobic. So stick with small pieces.

I was thinking about getting small tea light candle holders and constructing some type of wire wrap around and get then to hang from the wall. Would like nice having a bunch of little candles running down the wall.
