I started to use a similar strategy for these things after my iTunes account was hijacked a couple months back. I use Password Safe to store passwords for all manner of things. For websites that have password recovery questions, I use Password Safe to generate a completely random password and paste that in as the answer to the security questions. In Password Safe, I record the question and "answer" I submitted so that I can refer to them later. The end result is that no one should be able to guess the answers to the security questions. The only downside is that since I can't memorize the random values, I have to consult my Safe at home to recover access to a site. I think this would be great to have in the kitchen. I'm pondering it myself. One feature that would be useful would be to have an app that allows you to start multiple timers so you can track progress of multiple tasks accurately. I'm disappointed by the lack of a camera on the iPad, but I don't feel that is as big a miss for kitchen use as it would for general use. Another concern I'd have is how resistant to water it would be. It's easy to imagine needing to interact with the thing without clean hands, so making sure it would clean up nicely is a must. My wife makes "Cute Dolls" with an archaic sewing machine she inheritied from her grandmother. It knows two things: one stitch and mangling fabric. Along with most folks posting, grilling with just salt and pepper is the way to go. I managed to lop off the tip of my thumb with my mandoline while trying to julienne carrots. As a bonus, I could identify the cross cuts in the wound. It frustrates me to no end that I was using the "safety" device when it happened, though. I've since bought a chain-mail oyster glove that I wear whenever using the mandoline now. My wife and I had an amazing Omakase meal at our local Japanese restaurant last week. If we could cook even one of the dishes we had there, we'd be happy monkeys. Beef-tongue stew or Cod with Miso-Garlic sauce would be near the top of the list. I don't know if the book would have those, but one can dream...
