I'm not sure about the pup, but he looks like my mother's dog, which is a Chinese Crested Powder Puff.

I’ve read that some restaurants will add carpet padding or carpet tiles to the underside of dining tables to help absorb sound.

Maybe you could try to add noise mufflers underneath everything possible. I’m thinking some old quilts under the sofa (not too close to the edge, don’t want anything showing). Also, try under any tables or countertops.

Anyone have experience with either of these?

Clean and declutter as mentioned. Also, a small bottle of white-out and a black sharpie can help touchup marks and chips left from living in a home. I'm a huge fan of Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for descuffing baseboards.

Agree with everyone else for Thermal Curtains from JC Penney. Also WalMart sells them online for $11 each.

For me a must have is my parabolic space heater. Definetly worth looking into.

Layering is your best option. Flor tiles or look for larger area rugs on Craigslist.org. Also, keep an eye out for yard sales and your local thrift store. Also I've purchase a phenomenal headboard for $5 at Goodwill and with an 88 cents can of black spray paint and some sand paper have a head board that I love.

Good luck & please post pictures!

In the carribean, they have stands setup with tropically painted coconuts, for tourists. They paint the mailing address right onto the coconut and drop it in the mail. Our local mailman said that they had so much fun receiving the coconut. Mailed it to my mom and she loved it. Great conversation piece.

Art work over the sofa and floating shelves above the dining table. Make sure a few of the display pieces are dining related (not just cute storage boxes).

WIRELESS Motion Sensored Lights. I'd use Command sticky tapes to secure (sort of) them.

I found a two pack online for ~ $35, but I'm sure your local big box or hardware store has something similar.

Also - a can of WASP spray could come in handy. You can spray someone from across the room. I also like the idea of an air horn.
