I would be one of those people to just welcome anyone and everyone into my home. I host parties about 3 or 4 times per year where I invite friends, & friends of friends into my home to celebrate. These can sometimes get to 30+ people in a less-than-1,000-sqft home. I'm not sure I COULD host 60-70 people for a salon of this type, but I love meeting people and honestly believe that most people who come together to learn and meet new people are fairly trustworthy people.

I buy my toilet paper and paper towels in bulk. I keep the TP stored in a closet, with a small basket of about 3-4 rolls in the bathroom. The paper towels are stored under a counter in the kitchen. I fear running out of TP, and always try to have enough rolls for a good party on hand.

thecreamqueen, I have found that Wacoal and their side brand B*Tempted have some very nice-looking and fun lingerie for those of us with over C cups. I used to shy away from Wacoal, but in the past couple of years, they've been turning out some lovely collections that both support, flatter, and tease. They tend to be a bit pricier, but they LAST through daily wear without falling apart.

I'm still trying to go through my clothes to get rid of that which does not fit/is worn out so that we have more room to put my sig.other's clothes.

1. Fluff & Fold service is a life-saver sometimes. I guess up in NYC, they call it drop-off laundry, but it's saved my sanity every so often when it just becomes too much or I have very little time and lots of errands to run.

2. If you can find a twin sized blow-up mattress, it will be useful now, and for guests when they come to visit. I sent one to my little sister's workplace when she first moved to NYC and wouldn't receive her furniture for another week.

3. Get to know your apartment without everything. What walls are more noisy? Where do the vents hit, so that you can plan out the optimum 'Sheldon' spots without having to continuously move furniture & boxes.

4. Walk around your new neighborhood. Get to know your neighbors.

5. YES, LAUGH! This is a moment that will become a story in the future.

I would think that a full sized bed with a trundle may be the best option. You don't need to put the bed away every day, if you don't want to, but it gives the option to put it away for more floor space. There are options that have drawers under the trundle, so it would have built in bedding storage, and wouldn't be so low to the ground.

Finding the third place is really important for me. When I find that place that I can go outside of my home where there are always friendly people (patrons & staff) and I can work, chat, or go for a really good time. That's my third place. Not work. Not home. But can be good to do both.

I found that having an every other week cleaning service kept the peace a lot. Because, yes, you will both probably be cleaning, but not realizing what the other is cleaning. One of my old roommates didn't realize how much I cleaned the kitchen until I moved out and she realized that the countertops and floors collected grime very quickly. I was cleaning it at least twice a week if not longer.

For food, have the yours, mine, and ours system. I usually shared staples with roommates and then if something was out we'd alternate restocking.

As far as finding roommates, I have found mine through the internet. One roommate vetted me over the phone because I wasn't moving to the state for a month or so. The next roommate I had was also the vetter. But we got along really well at the interview and then realized, while touring the space, that all of her movies were either movies that I owned, liked, or wanted to see. We got along really well and I moved out when her now-husband moved in and we're still really good friends.

My next roommate was when I was in charge. We set expectation of boundaries and rent splitting and I sprung for the cleaners since I know I tend to get really busy and vacuuming triggers my allergies, so I have someone else do it! We made sure to set ground rules of informing the other when we have people over, or want to have a group over. We lived together for about 2 years very well. We were never best buddies, but we worked well living together.

This past year was one of the first times I threw an actual Birthday Party for my 30th. I invited friends to bike to various brewery tours around town and then meet up at my favorite watering hole for a bottle share and grub. I was up front about any cost incurring, and it ended up raining, so the back up plan of leaning on the designated drivers kicked in. Those that couldn't dedicate the whole day to running around town were welcome to join in the evening at the pub (reasonable prices and laid back).

Normally, I throw a 3rd of July, Hey We Don't Have To Work Tomorrow, Beer Appreciation Gathering. It's 4 days after my birthday, but I rarely mention that to the people I invite. I just want to spend time with friends and it's a convenient day to host a gathering. I buy pizza dough, various toppings, and stock some beers. I invite guests to bring beer to share (or the beverage of their choice if they are not a fan), and a topping if they are really wanting something specific. The beers go into the coolers for all to partake, the pizzas are made as people get hungry and are shared with all as they are made. The only rules are that you must bring beverage to drink beverage, you must make food to eat food, and that you can't bogart your own provisions since it's all about sharing. It's always so much fun to see everyone bonding over tossing dough, trying new ingredients and learning about new beers.

I'll be moving back to this un-birthday party this year. I get too stressed about people not coming to a birthday party because it resides in that "special" event category and get my feelings hurt for no reason if people can't make it. However, if I'm just throwing a party, and not a birthday party, my psyche takes it a lot easier when people have busy lives and their own plans and can't make it.

I've had the pleasure of experiencing the full Lithuanian Christmas Eve dinner with my relatives, since my uncle is Lithuanian. We break the bread, and have about 5 herring dishes, lots of beets, and he usually breaks the rules and makes a rack of lamb for his meat-loving daughters.

In my family, we were allowed to open ONE present on Christmas Eve (and usually my mom picked out the present and it was pjs so we would match and not be wearing a ratty old teeshirt in photos in the morning.)

On Christmas morning, my family makes monkey bread and usually brings one to a neighboring family that has young children. We hand out the presents and then we go around and around taking turns opening them. My dad puts on every wearable gift he is given.

My family and extended family play "The Famous People Game" which is very similar in playing method to peach-pie.

Other games I really enjoy are Apples to Apples and Cards Against Humanity
Never forget Trivial Pursuit, Cranium, or Set.

I find it hilarious that Splitty refers to Phase 10 as an adult-oriented game because my friends and I were obsessed with it for about 5 summers in a row when I was about 10-15. I still love that game, and have been interested in bringing it out in a more adult group.

When I lived upstairs, I always tried to be reasonable and not be up until all hours of the night in shoes. But then I was moving. I had lived there for 3 years, and it was the last night I would be there and things needed to moved and cleaned and I have a job, so I didn't get started until the evening. With the understanding that it was 1 night and that I was moving heavy objects from the house, down the stairs, to my car all evening, I could not just not wear shoes. And I totally pissed off my underneath neighbors, but I couldn't move heavy objects to the door barefoot, put on shoes, then move them down stairs and out then remove shoes and wash rinse repeat. I value unbroken feet.

That being said, it was the only time one of them came upstairs and complained.

Now I live in a single story house and relish not worrying about bothering anyone.

I tend to keep my work clothes on until I get ready for bed. I dress comfortably, but mostly in skirts and dresses. Sometimes I transition to a different outfit, but don't have 'loungeabout' clothes.

Dropped phone stories:

Palm Centro: it flew out of my hand while on a second floor balcony entrance to my apartment. Flew, it was like someone jerked it out of my hand mid-conversation. I rushed down to rescue it, sure that it was going to be destroyed. My aunt was still on the line wondering what that large sound was and if I was okay. Barely a scratch.

iPhone: within 1 week of receiving my iPhone 4, it slipped out of my hands. The crack was from the top of the screen to the ear speaker. That's it. I have never replaced it because I simply don't find it to be distracting or dangerous.
About a year to a year and a half later I noticed that I had a crack halfway through the back face. No idea how that happened, but waiting for the next generation to upgrade.

FIPPSS it's a reference to college sports redshirting freshmen so that they have an extra year to train and develop with the team before playing.

As far as age and learning, I've always been of the mindset that the earlier one starts preschool & kindergarten, the better they are later in years. I was a June birthday in a September cutoff school system, so I was always on the younger side. However, I was always tall, curious, and my family supported my learning process and developing intelligence. I probably would have rebelled if my parents had held me back because of my age.

Living in Houston, A/C is a necessity of life. The humidity plus the heat is a killer for me. I am a cold sleeper and can't seem to get comfortable sleeping on nights that barely get down to 80 degrees. While I hate that most office buildings are sub-70 degrees and way over-airconditioned, I prefer to keep my house around 75 in the summer and upper 60s in the winter. Now, when it comes to visiting family and friends in the midwest and canada during the summer, the night's get delightful and I can go without the A/C because of that overnight respite from the heat.

While this test does test how well you distinguish between different hues, it does not test how you name said colors or how you process said colors. Just because you perceive a color to be blue or grey or brown doesn't necessarily mean that another person with a high ability to distinguish between hues will perceive it as the same "color". The arguments about whether periwinkle is more blue or more purple will still continue even if you can distinguish between a slightly bluer or slightly more purple periwinkle. That is, unless you take out the spectrometer and precisely define in wavelength where purple ends and blue begins.
