Ditto. This is a conveniently timed nudge. We're very likely to ditch Netflix and go back to local rental. All the DVDs we get from Netflix are scratched anyway, and the streaming has not much that I want to watch. Plus, it's summer, I should be outside doing more important things, right?

I keep a container of the chipotle chilis in adobo sauce too... and it lasts a month or two before I run out. I've never seen it go bad, but if you don't use it for awhile, it forms kind of a yucky dry skin on top. Don't keep it in the can tho - it will develop rust. We had to toss some because of a rusty edge.

I love the Seattle ecohaus... have been there a dozen times in the last week getting no-voc paints and other goodies for a new home. They are super friendly and helpful. I love going into a store and knowing that I can pick anything there and it will be an environmentally smart choice.

We also did the American Clay workshop, which was awesome hands-on with great demos and Q&A time. Can't wait to pick a color of clay for my living room!

It seems like if the wood is properly sealed and maintained, it wouldn't be any more troublesome than other flooring types. I am also considering replacing the ugly and worn checkerboard linoleum in my kitchen with hardwoods.

Maybe you could find a tile for the backsplash that could bridge the two materials. Maybe a recycled glass in a green or brown tone to soften the edge between warm woods and cool stone. Or maybe there is a hardware choice that would reflect the look of the soapstone on the cabinetry?

LOVE your minimal container design in photo 2. The plants are quite stunning!

The sago palm is very pretty, but please beware if you have a puppy that likes to munch plants, that Sago palm is quite toxic and can kill your pet.

I looked at the Blomberg and the Liebherr fridges side by side in the store, and the quality difference is visible. The Blomberg is priced cheaper because it's....well, built cheaper. If you're looking for a small fridge based on price, there are some cute ones even cheaper than the Blomberg that seem to be of comparable quality. (search for "apartment fridge") The Liebherr has two compressors, is quieter, and more efficient, thus the higher pricetag. You get whatcha pay for!

Really, really cute kitchen you've got here Lucy! Wish I wasn't too late to vote you a thumbs up.

I love the sink and the color in the teal and red washroom/kitchen. It feels very rustic and country, but I tend to see the teal/red scheme as a more girly one. Ignoring the colors, the fixtures and rough functionality feels kind of manly. :-)

I hope by "curbside" you meant you gave away and thrifted your stuff rather than sent it all to the landfill.

Also, I am sort of appalled that in a time when it's pretty obvious that we should all be conserving water, I still see these giant water-wasting showerheads in many of the tours.

(warning, this is a bit of a rant) I'm not sure what the theme here at AT is supposed to be, but echo the comment about "so much for small, affordable". There seem to be two worlds here - people throwing tons of money at making a spread worthy of an interior design magazine, and those of us trying to get by comfortably and organized with what we have plus some choice additions.

Don't get me wrong, this place is BEAUTIFUL, but my place would be too if I could afford to throw out everything I own on an whim and buy all those expensive pieces of furniture to display in a mind-blowing loft like this one. I guess I'm on the wrong site. I would rather live in a home rather than an art/furniture museum.

Love your place, very inviting and colorful.

Wondering how you are getting away with running a gas range without a vent hood though?! Maybe I'm just not seeing it in the photo.

Here in Seattle, there are dozens of non-profits that will take your old tech and recycle it properly or find ways to repurpose it for people who can't afford new countries (here and overseas). Look up computer recycling for your area. I'm sure there is someone who would take it.

When you work for a creative firm, all work is credited to the firm, of course. It's nice when individuals are credited, and lower-level employees also need to credit those who inspire, mentor and direct them in their early days. A little respect and pats on the back all around for work well done never hurt anyone. No one person is a self-contained genius - everyone is inspired, influenced or guided by someone outside of themselves. Especially in a creative firm, everyone there is creating work which is a product of the highly conducive environment of talented people pooling ideas.

Maggie - love your setup! I added you on Flickr. I'm also in Seattle, moving to a new 534 sqft place on Cap Hill in 2 weeks. You are an inspiration. (cute sock monkeys too...which I have a huge soft spot for)

I tried to see the beauty in it, but.... yucky. Seriously? That's what a cheap house looks like inside before they finish it. Chip board everywhere. With all the glue in that stuff, it must stink in there like a lumber mill too.

I love the look and colors, but I cringe at the thought of squeaky metal filing cabinet doors being opened. In my experience, they don't slide out all that well when containing heavy things... unless you have some sort of super heavy duty awesome filing cabinet with better drawer slides.

I'm also running into the challenge of finding small appliances with quality craftsmanship and finer details.

Is that a paperstone countertop? I like your color scheme with the cocoa color and light blue.

abs99 - I'm in Seattle. My inbox is going to be emptied at thrift over the next couple weeks and in a big garage sale the week we move into our new place - the week of June 5th. You can watch Craig'sList and The Stranger that week for the garage sale notice.

I just had an offer accepted on a 535 sqft condo, coming from a 2040 sqft house, so you can imagine there are lots of things in my outbox, including; silver-color bookshelves that are too modern in the 1928 building we're moving too, a giant dresser and some extra smaller dressers that will no longer fit, barstools (no more bar), 4 extra chairs (and maybe all 6 of them will go in favor of fold up chairs), many many clothes, a giant bin of heirloom dishes and an heirloom 20's chest (back to mom), at least one of the lamps (still deciding), along with a huge assortment of things we would keep in a big house - just in case, for later - but that will not fit in our new place. Office supplies, extra art supplies, extra fix-it supplies, yard and garden surplus.
