Maxwell, you are being disengenuous in the extreme to suggest that AT uses one photo when it steals from the NYT. Your editors do not use one photo - maybe one photo before the jump, to encourage your own readers to click through to a second AT page, and thus increase your own ad revenue, but I ran a search on NYT on the AT site and found an astonishing number of posts where the AT editor took a large percentage of the total photos from the NYT story, which for AT readers, means there is no need to click through, since they have seen the best photos and been given a synopsis already. yes, posts do say there are more photos on the NYT site, but so many are already at AT that there is no point in clicking through.

8 photos, in this one, and it isn't unusual, I don't think: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ny/blogging/house-tour-color-pattern-in-israel-nyt-31208-045199
that isn't a 'visual taste', that's making money off of other people's work.

If the NYT doesn't want you to use their content to earn your own living off of their work, why not just respect their wishes and stop using their content? Surely, you'all can find EVEN MORE stuff at Ikea and West Elm to link to, instead.

The obvious solution is, stop making posts about what OTHER media think about design. It isn't right to say, 'well, we do it, but if you CATCH us doing it, and ask us nicely, we will take down the content we stole' and think that is a rational solution. It isn't 'flattering' to the NYT photographers to steal their images, and frankly, its insulting to readers to assume we cannot find the NYT on our own, but rely instead on editors to find it for us and link to it.

Put another way - why should the NYT be happy that bloggers steal their pictures and essentially boil down the content of stories (such that readers won't click through to the actual NYT site), and that bloggers who do this make a living off of the stolen content?

The problem with pretending it is ethical to use 'vintage' skins is that it encourages people to want to emulate the look, which necessitates killing animals currently alive to do so. Also, all that 'zebra' is cow and often pony. As in, you are killing horses today to pretty up your floor, to emulate real zebras killed a hundred years ago and being used as vintage skins.

I like McCain's office much better. But like another commenter pointed out, he has been in that office 20 years, so obviously Obama's is going to look a little better. I bet 15 years ago McCain's office was pretty hip looking. Now it just looks lived in and comfortable. I really think Obama's office looks like a therapist's waiting room, and McCain's looks like a man's study.

My design choice preferences do not reflect my upcoming vote though.

Mothballs don't repel rats - they cause cancer in the females, and interrupt the breeding cycle. And as Anna pointed out above, this couldn't be a more dangerous bit of advice. More specifically, mothballs are often paradichlorobenzene, and the chlorine atoms can convert to hydrochloric acid. Hey, get rid of the middle man and just pour hydrochloric acid on your engine!

Next up, in the advice files - grease fire on the stove? Throw gasoline on it!

Animals are NOT decor items, or accessories. This is really cruel looking.

Ummm...this is the OPPOSITE of no possessions. This is getting rid of all of the current possessions in order to buy new possessions. Homesteading, as rockabyemama aptly points out, requires all the tools of farming, including a new domicile. Catamarans require buying and maintaining a boat, and buying everything necessary to live on a boat.

Those photos all look like great.... waiting rooms. Very 'upscale cosmetic dentist' looking, or perhaps, 'plastic surgeon to the C-list'.

I love how books are 'clutter', but some mass-produced piece of crap from jonathan adler or DWR or whatever else is cutting edge for this season is somehow a desired, nay, required, personal design statement that reflects a great example of 'editing' one's surroundings.

Gorgeous. This is really a home, not an overdesigned house, and good on you for knowing the difference when you put this place together. This house tour is inspiring.

Eric, my point is, AT is not Craigslist:
http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/rfs/610614231.html

or Postlets:
http://www.postlets.com/res/452026

Which have pretty much exact duplicates of this post - AT used to be about finding great stuff, first, and now it is a pale imitation of craigslist, which at least had the distinction of having this copy posted first.

Its great that you are looking to hustle for your clients, especially an odd looking, overpriced flip like this one in a brutally soft Chicago real estate market, but AT used to be about showcasing interesting and beautiful design and innovative small space solutions, and posts like this, that aren't even written as posts but as a blanket list of RE features, spammed across multiple sites, are disturbing. After all, AT does take paid advertisements, and this post is nothing more than an advertisement. This should be (and who knows, probably is) a paid advertisement, not a blog post.

I am not suggesting you should be ashamed of anything, but somebody should, for posting a word for word craigslist ad and trying to pass it off as a design story.

Should we assume that "AT Reader Eric", who sent these photos is also Eric R from the comments, in which case, is this a post for a house tour, or an advertisement for a condo for sale? Eric, you have your own blog to post your listings in, and this is a thinly disguised way to boost interest in the properties that you represent.

If I wanted to see pictures of condos for sale I would troll the numerous real estate blogs out there dedicated to just that. AT, I hope you are getting a cut of the revenue for this condo sale, because this post is an advertisement, and you are letting the salesman advertise on your site for free.

Love the closeup on the birds. I can definitely see either of these in my own nursery!

The set of photos on flicker is amazing - it is hard to see the depth of participation in these small pics, but in the larger ones, that is a lot of children over a long period of time. I wish this had existed when I was a kid. it looks magical.

Bring a lock box to store your ID, cash, and wallet in. I was surprised to see that none of the drawers in the room had locks on them.

What a great solution to the "recharge station clutter" problem!

A bit pricey - but any docking station will cost you, and this one fills multiple needs.

Too bad it only comes in white, tho I guess it can be painted...
