GORGEOUS. Nice call keeping the original wood finishes, it's getting to be way too rare:( Also great job perfectly mixing in some mid century pieces without making your house look like a caricature. Really amazing tour. Anne & Jake's Bright Colorful Midwestern Home House Tour |

I'm sorry people but sometimes you go too far with the "keep the wood" thing. Those things were way too overpowering and looked like shiny plywood. Before & After: Lisa DIY Kitchen Rehab |

Totally agree, bepsf...I used to rent a studio from the 1920's and each unit had a fake fireplace just for decoration. Fireplaces are meant to be a focal point! Furniture Up Against the Fireplace |

I'd leave it as is. Curtains will still show the shape of the window and may just look bulky If you collect anything colorful or visually interesting line them along the window sill. That's what I did with my oddly shaped window (used my kid robot figures and deer collection). Also, if you hang some art pieces around the window, it won't be as noticeable! White subway tiles! I would tie in some green in the form of a kitchen aid mixer (or some other appliance) rather than commit to a brightly colored back splash. I wouldn't worry about it matching all the vertical accents, I think subway tiles would nicely break up too much of the same thing:) Which Type & Color Backsplash Should I Install? Good Questions |

There seems to be a very similar color between the 2 duvets - that tan shade (though yours might be more mauve, it's a little hard to tell). So something in a neutral camel or the like might work well. Design Dilemma: Picking Curtains After Merging Households |

@ jlcarpe3 I didn't mean to offend you or anything, but if you announce that you have nothing nice to say you are obviously still insulting the crap out of the space without adding any sort of solution. At least this time you explain yourself and who knows....maybe they will be able to learn and grow as "designers". ;) Auni's Cottage in the City House Tour |

I'm sorry but I'm sick of people either saying they don't like it while adding NO constructive criticism/elaboration, or that they love it blindly just to be nice and counteract the negative comments. The reason comments are allowed is to give opinions...I actually enjoy reading what people don't like about a space because usually there are more than a few people that agree. This helps me understand how to better arrange my space to a degree, and it's also interesting to see how many people share my design aesthetic. Similarly, hearing what people do like about an apartment or house does the same job....I really don't see what the big deal is. If I posted my place, I would want honest and hopefully detailed feedback! Auni's Cottage in the City House Tour |

ladymantle - I kinda like the mix of midcentury and early 20th/late 19th century details (I think that's what you didn't like?). I think it makes the place look comfortable but still elegant. I especially love the feel of the living room. I guess to each his own! :) Christopher's "el Corazon" Mission Flat House Call |
