agreed. I prefer my blackberries in a iced cocktail. My favorite is the blackberry bramble- I've developed a recipe that I posted here: http://gnoshings.wordpress.com/2010/05/03/the-blackberry-bramble/ Recipe: Individual Blackberry Bourbon Slumps | Apartment Therapy The Kitchn |

As for grains, I toast farro before cooking and it's a wonderful addition to the chewy texture that I love. Too bad I have to order farro over the internet or I'd be eating it much more often. Better Steel Cut Oats: Try Toasting the Grains in Butter! | Apartment Therapy The Kitchn |

I have 4 baby bundt cake pans (like 4 inches across) that are perfect for making single/double serving cakes (rather than ONE ENORMOUS CAKE, which is always difficult to manage at parties). I have to say I love personal servings and plating rather than buffet style as it allows you to control the presentation closely. I think it really brings the "fancy" to the dessert! One thing that always tripped me up as a new baker was butter. Cold, room temperature, melted-- they all have different effects on the product! So pay attention to the recipe and if it calls for room temp butter, break out a stick and leave it alone for an hour (or cut into pats and wait 20 minutes!). I wish I had known this so much earlier!
