Talk about Stone Soup. You add that stuff, and you've basically got stock.

I love the "questionable bar" that has "good stuff" ginger ale (or ginger ale at all -- not just sprite and coke mixed), jalapenos and the muddlers to muddle them. Where does this writer live?

I can't get mint to grow for love or money. I'd love it if it took over some of my yard!

I've definitely had some pinterest fails -- usually of the crockpot variety. here was one that was supposed to be sesame chicken but tasted like the ketchup and soy sauce it was made with -- yuck! And don't even bother with the "cook X meals in one sitting" pins -- the recipes are all AWFUL (admitted even by the blogger whose post the pin links to).

But the worst was a "beauty" routine. It was supposed to create super smooth legs. Sugar, olive oil, and a dash of lemon juice. I tried it out. My legs started burning instantly. I was only able to stand the awfulness for half the listed time, and even after I washed it off with body wash and moisturized, my legs were itchy and rashy for DAYS. And of course, the bathtub was an olive oil disaster. My husband almost killed himself in the shower the next day.

On the flip side, I pinned the Kitchn's take on Jamie Oliver chicken cooked in milk recipe, and then repinned it with a guarantee because it sounds sketchy and I wanted my followers to know that it's real and awesome.

I think there's a pretty good shot in the second picture (the close up of the flooring installation) where you can see there's still PLENTY of light in the entryway.

Kitchen cabinets DO look better all the way to the ceiling -- but for some reason most houses don't have that. And redoing cabinets costs a mint. Drives me nuts.

Baffled by those confused how kirsch and wine is mixed with cheese. This isn't some sort of bizarre recipe. Fondue is not just melted cheese -- it would be way too thick that way. You always add wine as a base. ALWAYS. Wine or beer.

I totally had this book! The stained glass cookie and the "hidden treasure" cookies were my favorite.

Also, no Elmo hating. I was all about the Elmo hating until my toddler fell hard for him, and then I watched the documentary on Kevin Clash, and now I think Elmo and I have come to terms. He's actually quite a cool cat.

My mother made an AMAZING homemade mac and cheese and I make it too, but we also ate boxed mac and cheese. They are very different foods to me. One is not better, it's different, the way roasted tomatoes are different from salad tomatoes. They occupy a different place in my mind and on my table. Homemade mac and cheese is a dinner food, to be served with green salads and white wine. Kraft is a snack food, or a quick lunch for a child, or a sick day food craving.

I'm with @tomathome. People who hate the message (not the overuse) of the Keep Calm posters don't understand the history. The Blitz was a relentless terrorist attack meant to dishearten the English people and make them panic and surrender to the Nazis. "Keep Calm" is in the same lines as "There's nothing to fear but fear itself" and other slogans that Allied leaders used to keep up the spirits of the people during the war.

They were saying, don't panic, don't give in, don't forget who we are and why it's worth fighting for our way of life. Keep calm and carry on -- carry on being brave, carry on fighting, carry on resisting.

And that's how they changed the world.

Mine hasn't graduated to watching TV shows, but she's OBSESSED with "babies" -- i.e., looking at pictures and videos of herself on our phone or computer screen. If she sees our phone or hears it ring or sees our computer it's "babies babies babies" until we let her look for a few minutes. She'll go through the pictures and name everyone and everyplace in them "Grandma! Mommy! Pop-pop! Nanna! Swing! Slide! Pool! Choo Choo" so that eased my fears that I was raising a little narcisist. ;-)

My husband gets a kick out of looking up the "babies laughing" videos for her on you tube.

But there are definitely times when I hand her the phone with the videos on -- like when we were recently on a plane.

I don't plan to outlaw screentime for my child, but I will limit it. We don't have TV reception, and I do think letting them watch only recorded shows (with no ads) is helpful. both in keeping out the junk like ads and in setting time limits (like once the dvd is over, it's over). I'll re-evaluate when she's older (8-10). I watched a lot of TV growing up, but I still read a ton and spent all my summers outside.

i think I could happily give up every one of my kitchen gadgets except for my slow cooker. It's the only way to make truly fantastic stock -- you need to cook it for about 24 hours. I make a lot of stock. And it's so great to use in the summer when you don't want to heat up the whole house by turning on the oven. Also, pantry chili. and barbecue in the slow cooker is the best.

I'm having a difficult time imagining putting the time and effort (and expense) to something so profoundly silly. Party blowers come in every color of the rainbow at any party store for a dollar a 10-pack. Who would do this and if they have so much time, can they come over and do some chores for me?
