Seriously the easiest-to-use color generator I've seen. I hope this changes my designs into the future. Thanks for the link!

Ok, I got freaked out by the vimeo preview pic. I thought you got a "real" job and someone got your name wrong.

And I want to see the size of the bag it takes to haul that thing home.

I especially appreciate the simplicity (on the surface) of the Nest over the others. I currently have an old-school programmable thermostat that I've never learned to program. So we just mash buttons when we're hot or cold.

Looks like I could carry that sensibility to the Nest, and then it does all the dirty work of programming and scheduling for me. Or I could just keep cranking the dial up and down like I do now, and life would be no different.

Except that I'd love to see that little knob and display on the wall, as opposed to the "security-style" wall wart with all the buttons and flip-down door and incomprehensible LCD screen.

Save money? A bonus, if it happens. Good design? Well, it looks good anyway.

Although my wife has totally converted to iPad (planning to sell her MacBook after iOS 5 hits), she's considering getting a Kindle Fire. Why? She reads (a LOT), she orders from Amazon (not QUITE as much), and she can appreciate having something just a little smaller when sitting around the house or waiting for appointments.

I think Amazon will sell a boatload of Fires, and then Apple will sell another boatload of iPads (3?), and the game continues.

Me? Just hanging out, waiting for the iPhone 5. I'm in no hurry.

I carry a Macbook Pro from home to work, and the only times I shut it off are for updates and when it hits major memory weirdness (like this morning). Don't know if I'm more lazy or impatient.

I purposefully move stuff around constantly. Mouse on the left, back to the right, keyboard slid over to make number entry easier (and then not move it back), etc. Does that make me anti-OCD?

I've posted many of these ideas on my walls at work with vinyl lettering. That, and a paraphrase of Jim Coudal's quote, "Our number-one value isn't in any of the skills we have. It's that we're essentially curious." (We have "Our value is our curiousity, not our skills")

I'm a laptop user with a 23" monitor at both home and work, so except for the heaviest of heavy-duty jobs, I feel like I've got a pretty good setup.

My wife has become a die-hard tablet user, since her iPad does all the things she needs (email, web, basic apps) quicker than her laptop, plus she can take it easily around the house and around town.

Of course, I have a bit of each of these "warriors" in my world. As I'm sure many people will say.

At the very least, my kids' DS allows us to create a system of rewards and consequences that they genuinely respond to (you have a choice: clean your room and you may play DS, or ignore my words and lose it for tomorrow).

And as someone who worked in the game industry for almost 10 years, I feel OBLIGATED to point out the learnin' that happens in most games. Problem solving, failure leading to success (and stick with something in order to figure it out), and cooperative play (in the case of online and wi-fi enabled games).

Not to say that I don't kick my kids out of the house to play in meatspace as well. I'm not raising social rejects, here...

I try to strike a balance between these two extremes. Honestly, though, I tend toward cluttered. And then, one day, I can't take it any more, and I throw out 80% of the crap and feel like I own the world. For about two hours. Then it's back to work. Which is a cluttered mess anyway.

Just tried this. Awesome! I just need to find my pliers to bend the "feet" and it'll be perfect again.

Thanks for saving me a trip to Fry's and another wad of money replacing something I don't really need to replace.

Lava lamp and small bamboo plant in a red rectangular vase.

Well, that plus papers, misc cameras, electrical tape, loose 3 x 5 cards, empty boxes, and a cup of coffee or a coke, all of which I swear I'll clean up in a minute. Honestly.

You're becoming more and more of a rebel as you age!

And you're proving your worth to your readers and your fellow editors alike, by being ready and willing to present something new and fresh. Not that I'm giving up my iPhone 4 anytime soon, but at least I know a little more about the alternatives. Keep it up!

Great post idea! As someone who games primarily with the sound muted (the perils of fatherhood), it's delightful to discover some of the treats I've been missing. Although I can only take so much of the Angry Birds noises before it's back to blessed silence!

Some of us like trying different, "outside the box" methods of motivation. Ok, maybe this doesn't look as professional as some people would like. Then decorate a magnetic whiteboard, print out your own icons, whatever.

I think the idea to break out of the "I have to use Google apps to stay on task," because that doesn't work for all of us. I know it doesn't work for me.

This sort of cheesy, grade-school alternative, in all its tacky goodness, might. I'm willing to give it a try.

Loosen your tie and give it a try with me, won't you?
