I grew up in south georgia in a rural community and was drawn to the city as early as I can remember. My husband and I and our two kids live in a city now and love it. In our next place I'd be open to city or country but not suburbia..

When I was growing up one of my aunts gave me a fontanini nativity piece every year. Now my kids get to play with the set. One of the best gifts. I liked the idea someone mentioned about giving cash. I have a 5 year old and he is really getting the concept of money. It could be a great teaching tool.

when I started blogging I refused to go the trend "make your own cards, wall art, chalkboard wall" route and yet over time I've found myself writing more diy posts. Being a part of the blogosphere influences my blog in more than I'd like to admit!

the thing I've realized is each year will vary. When my kids were babies my brain was fried. So just getting up the tree was a big deal. We didn't get Christmas cards out last year but have ordered them for this year. I suppose my point is, give yourself flexibility. If you have the time great! If not don't feel guilty.

I try to find a few (legitimate) sources that show the color on the walls. this helped me tremendously in picking the right paint color for our living room. http://www.lifeonchurchill.com/2012/02/neutrals-blues.html of course look at physical swatches too!

we bought a small table off craigslist with a metal tulip base. We love it. A round base works SO much better with small spaces. http://www.lifeonchurchill.com/2012/05/flowers-for-friday.html

oh my goodness we clean when we know someone is coming over. Its the only time I do it :) with the exception of tidying, sweeping, dishes.. But I agree with some of the others, there are levels. If they have kids and have been to our home before I'm much more relaxed.

Our little guy used a strider bike. He liked it when he was 3 and 4...now that he is almost 5 he wants one with pedals. I love the concept. His was around $99 and now his sister will get to use it..
