I had an excellent experience with Schoenbauer and second the recommendation.

OK- I'm flirting with becoming ATDC's crackpot "what about bedbugs" poster. I'll make the sacrifice and heartily advise against bringing one's own pillows and other bedding to hotels. It is also best to keep your possessions under wraps to the extent that that's possible. I speak from unhappy experience. It pays to be careful.

I found the prices too high and the pieces too large.

I haven't had good luck with these. I had hoped to use them for long-term storage for space reasons and because I'm neurotic about the faint specter of bugs. Sadly, the seals on my Space Bags have always opened up over the course of a few months, even when they're undisturbed on closet shelves.

I saw this in the Post today. I think the end product is lovely, but I'm always (on principle) troubled by substantial alteration of original details. On the other hand, people in old properties not subject to preservation restrictions have a right to create the homes they want...

It just makes my inner preservationist a little sad.

See, I think the store would be a welcome addition to 14th St. I also think this would be an excellent redevelopment plan for the street-deadening Central Union Mission building. But-- and maybe this says more about my own post-traumatic stress issues than anything else-- I would have some reservations about bringing merchandise into my home after it has been in a building that was recently a homeless shelter. Let's hope they gut the interior aggressively, because I don't know how much thought they'll put into chasing out bedbugs!

I thought they considered and rejected the Adams Morgan location some time ago. It is closer to me, but the scale of the building is more appropriate for the smaller (and very nice) businesses there currently.

I don't think anyone needs to be afraid of Mall events. I have always found the "crowds" reasonable. Just avoid the very nearest Metro stations after the fireworks.

Yeah, that's typically UpperNW, alright. But how can AT, in good conscience, link to an article claiming that "with a new baby, the family neeeeeeded more room" than their 2-bedroom Georgetown condo.

Hooray! I understand the concerns of independent furniture businesses, but upper 14th street still has a ways to go and could use an anchor. Plus I'm an R&B fan.

I thought the Watergate was a co-op... maybe just part of it?

I think it's gorgeous... but I could never bear to rip out period details in the Wyoming. I live in a nearby but more modest co-op from the same period and fantasize about filling apartments in the neighborhood's shmancier buildings with modern furniture to contrast old with new and ornate with simple. I'd likely kill for a fraction of the period ornamentation these guys must have removed, but it wouldn't be authentic in my more humble space.
