MonicaK: Muji makes a line of furniture not available in the US. They will ship it abroad if you buy it in Japan, but it's not for sale abroad.

Miami's Elaine: That whole room IS the shower/bathtub room. First you wash; then you bath. The toilet is in another room that they didn't show.

What I want to know is, why did the photographer deliberately leave out the TV corner of the room?

First of all, let me say I think you've already done a fine job accenting the room with linens and accent chairs in bright red and the rug is great. I don't see an Ikea room when I look at it.
As far as helpful suggestions go, if you're looking to eliminate all traces of the Ikea, paint the pine! Complimentary or sharply contrasting colours would be great...(is that a light blue and yellow in the carpet?)
A brightly coloured or black and white (think antique photograph) above the bed would be nice to keep your eyes moving around the room as well.

Hold on there...this change is do FAR MORE to an entire switch out of dated furniture/decor than it is to painting the walls charcoal.

Comcast is a bully because it's big. Maybe it's time it wasn't so big. Time to find a new provider.

The AT&T "touchdown rundown" ad popup on the left side of the screen cut off half the pics. No way to X it out. I was so ticked and distracted I couldn't even get thru half (half) the pics. House tour totally ruined.
Screen your ads. If they interfere with the ability to SEE you pages, you might as well not have the pages.

I have seen that film a dozen times and apart from white, and upscale, the style is not present here. This feels cold, stuffy, impersonal. I had to check to make sure it wasn't just a showroom/sample apartment.
Half the furniture placement cut off the very views they claim to be showcasing. (Corner sofa in the bedroom? View=gone.)
Sorry, I just don't get this one.

Couple of ideas:
1. reading corner...chaise, bookcase(s), end table for tea/coffee.
2. television setup/wall..open or hidden inside new furniture, or behind a dividing curtain.
3. Create a dressing corner with screens/curtains or add extra storage with a wall of closet units like Ikea has.
4. Two Words: Art Gallery!

LOVE all the books. Thank you! Love the myriad of bookcases! Excellent!
The entirety is beautiful, the books tell me interesting, thoughtful people live there.
(Also love the Michael Apted Up Series dvds. I'm there.)

I have several teapots from Japan that have a similar handle covering of bamboo....I wouldn't know how to go out reproducing it myself but I know there are shops in Japan that still make them so it's possible...

Ok so this post is ruined from the get-go by it's focus on "judging" when it could be an interesting discussion on: "How do you feel about displaying hard-copy media? Do you think it's dated and tacky or...?"
I have uploaded all my music but have over 2000 dvds stored in neat binders in my bookshelves so they're not obvious. However, I enjoy seeing others media when I visit...It's a lot easier to look through and more fun than flipping through 9 alphabetically arranged binders of disks. In terms of ascethics, it's really about organization and display. I've seen several homes/offices with nicely arranged, large hard-copy media collections. (I don't have the links to them but the Tech section on AT is a great place to see them...Home design AT has large hard copy book displays in the majority of postings, and that's really what I come to look at in the first place. Why would you judge anyone for hard copy media but not books? Why would you judge anyone for anything ever, particularly on home design?!? Move on to something you like, give constructive feedback, or re-frame the question.

Hands down the best House Tour I've seen on Apartment Therapy in months. (Daily reader here..Not that I don't like to see all the custom built in expensive retro what-have-you, but THIS apartment is the what I'm looking for here...)
Fantastic design around that awkward narrow corner in the living room! Love the shelves above the desk, milk container as shoe storage? Genius. Plexiglass magazine holder ABOVE the key rack? Love it. Organized and labeled tupperware in bedroom bookcase? Thank you, I need to get on that immediately!
The Smiths poster? That was just icing on the cake.
Love you apartment, have a fantastic time in it!
