I like the flylady system a lot, and I like her attitude generally, and those of the "flybaby" testimonials. But her writing style is so disorganized, in my perspective. I have a really hard time figuring out what the system is, in some respects, especially when I'm returning to it after I've fallen off the wagon of my personal version of flylady. I also can't subscribe to the email list, even though I like the attitude boost--instead I have a web-only subscription and I occasionally pop on to read it. People should also know that they have a flylady-directive-only email list, I think it's on yahoo. Fly Lady: Love It or Hate It? |

I would suggest hiring someone for the first mowing, using an electrical or gas mower. After that, use a push mower. Any time the lawn gets out of control, repeat. Your Best Yard Taming Advice | Apartment Therapy Los Angeles |

It sounds lovely, and I've lived in situations more or less like that. The buggy detail ended up being walking back and forth on cold and rainy days in the winter. So I'd be happiest in a series of attached buildings, I suppose. A Communal Kitchen | Apartment Therapy The Kitchn |

My suggestion: pin up some beautiful gauzy colorful fabrics as curtains, and cover the bed in another beautiful fabric. If the lights are harsh, use the old dorm technique and cover those with scarves, as well. You'll end up with other things that make your place yours as well, like a few prints from a flea market for instance. Tips for Making a Temporary Apartment Feel Like Home? Very formal style. The bedroom is gorgeous, the kitchen is very nice, but the other rooms need a more warm human touch. Small Cool 2010: Anu's Creative Freedom Tiny Division # 8 | Apartment Therapy Chicago |

For the fences, plant whatever nice vines you can get ahold of. Morning glories are a great place to start. For year round cover ivy works well, but it does take over. A clematis here and there growing amongst the ivy could probably do well, that way you'd have year round cover and flowers too. I'm planning to do the same thing with some compact floor-seating cushions that are sold in a shop near me. They'll provide a back to my single bed futon, and in a pinch when my friends want to sit on the floor they can use them too. (Removable covers will be involved.) Bright colors. Blue would be great. Red would be overwhelming, but would go with the cabinets. Not orange, and yellow would be difficult. Green and purple would also be a bit difficult to pull off. Apartment Therapy Chicago | What Color Should I Paint My Kitchen? Good Questions |

You open it if you need it. It's a gift. The host should really already have one bottle open, and when that bottle runs out--unless you're specially pairing the wine and food, and the gift wine will not match--the gift wine should be opened. Get shades that are sheer enough to let light in, but dense enough that you can't see through in a clear way. Dress all the windows with these shades. For the lower windows you'll be able to lift the shade up when you want even more light, but for the upper windows you'll just leave them as is all the time. I'm ready to believe that MSG is not as bad as it's reputed to be... but I have had the experience of eating (almost always at Thai restaurants) and saying "Wow, this is so incredibly delicious!" and gobbling up the food... then about fifteen to thirty minutes later getting a very particular kind of headache that is just in my temples. It's possible that it depends on just how much MSG is being used. Apartment Therapy The Kitchn | The Truth About MSG |
