I've had a NatureMill for about 2 years now and I love it. It's reduced my waste by at least 1/2. We keep a small tupperware on the counter for scraps, and when it's full we dump it into the compost. It took about 2 months to get a good batch, and I let it sit for a while in the bottom reservoir to 'cure'. When it's full, I dump it into a bucket I keep on the fire escape outside. I use that on plants, give to friends, gardens, etc... It's very strong compost, better than any fertilizer I've used. The Naturemill only smells when you open the lid, and it's an earthy smell, goes away quickly when you close the lid. If you're not into dirt, then it's probably not for you, but I haven't had a problem with it. You have to start it out with some good dirt, and follow their instructions for what to add, when, how much, etc. Sometimes there are jams, but they usually clear themselves or you can break up chunks with a spoon yourself. Overall, a great investment that I feel good about. Reviews of the NatureMill Home Plus Indoor Composter? Good Question | Apartment Therapy Re-Nest |

I did a 10-day retreat probably at that very same place. Besides learning the basics of Vipassanna meditation, I mostly remember the food and eating! They served mostly vegan dishes which I usually don't enjoy very much, but I found myself loving every bite. A roomful of women eating in silence. And for those thinking it's unhealthy to only eat 2 meals a day... it's all you need when you're literally just sitting and meditating all day. I've never felt so alert, both body and mind, as when I eat lightly and quietly. Eating Quietly | Apartment Therapy The Kitchn |

I've bought it in Jersey City at the regular grocery store. It's definitely sturdier than other recycled foil products. Buying recycled foil is a great purchase because it closes the recycling loop. Companies will keep finding new ways to recycle products if they know that people will buy the resulting product. Check it out! Really?? You need a product to help with this? You can't just roll the newspaper around a glass or something? This seems more than a little unnecessary... I'm all for encouraging people to garden and re-use where possible, but purchasing an unnecessary block of wood? This doesn't need to be encouraged. PLEASE don't tell people that there are no proven health benefits to eating organically! You may be leading people to believe that choosing organic does not matter to their health, it does! Studies have shown that switching to an organic diet from conventional immediately lowers the amount of pesticides in the body. Just do a search on Google Scholar. I generally agree, but wanted to mention that it's not always about cost at farmers markets. Underserved communities are exactly that, underserved. Healthier food options are usually not as accessible in poorer communities. Parents work longer or unusual hours and can't take the time to go to local farmer's markets. Whole Foods type markets, while often organic and local, are indeed more expensive than generic foods. Apartment Therapy - Green Home Book Club: Chapter 2 |
