It's like you knew or something! Just bought a refurbished ipad 2, expecting it to come in the mail tomorrow.

@Hippiesheep, Now that does make sense, and I apologize for misunderstanding your intent. Maybe I'm beginning to expect the worst from the comment section, which isn't really fair of me. Context can be everything, and I didn't get the context. Sorry!

EGADS AT'ers, reel it in a little!! I don't think I've seen a cattier comment chain in months! If you were having a photoshoot done of your child's room, would you leave every toy out to prove they exist? Probably not. You'd probably put them where they belong, which for Wendy's household is in a cabinet or on a shelf. Maybe it's because this is a kids' room tour and the topic of children and child-rearing historically seems to bring out the nastiness in people, but let's not be so darn judgmental!

That being said I think the room looks colorful and bright, while also looking like someplace two boys could really grow into, which is awesome and something to be proud of. Thanks for sharing.

This was soooo very good! I used sausage with sage mixed in, and it was all amazing. Thanks for the recipe!

Wouldn't the second one be kind of slippery? Like the pad would slide around? Other than that, these look like good ideas.

I really enjoy Nigella Lawson. Nigella Cooks is like soft-core food porn. Seriously. Something about those camera angles, or the way she vividly describes the food, the way she slips you those little glances...

Also! I'll forever love her for teaching me how to effectively get pomegranate seeds out of the skin. I know others have said it as well, but I saw it on Nigella Cooks first. Just crack it open and smack away rather than try to pick them out. It was an intense revelation for me.

At first I thought this was really tacky, but the more I look at it the more I like it. It reminds me of my grandmother's backyard, where we kids used to rinse off after coming back from the beach.

Nostalgia ftw

This was a really fun thread to go through at first, but I'm glad I wasn't the only one surprised by the number of people who just sound like they could benefit from reading the through the recipe before actually cooking it. I used to do that a lot, though, and it really can screw things up so I can understand the frustration!

It's not something I normally get angry about, but I always roll my eyes when I read a recipe containing a lot of flowery prose in the middle of the instructions. I've noticed that in a lot of food blogs. That's all well and good in the intro or as a footnote, perhaps, but personally I think it gets in the way when you're actually preparing the dish. Useful tips are great though, as long as they're kept to the point, such as, "be careful not to overknead".

WRT the nastiness going: I think we can all agree a person has the freedom to put whatever food in his mouth that he feels comfortable with, and the right to engage/disengage in discussion about it. (The fact that people on this page are engaging in conversation about the subject is cool, but it's getting a little too heated.)

It's already been said (in fact, this thread isn't even really about it anymore at this point), but Paige can simply say "I've stopped eating meat because it makes me happy." Sure, she could go into it more deeply, but it doesn't sound like she wants to. Sounds like she's looking for something polite and detached, so that she can disengage from a potentially awkward situation.

I think a lot of these comments are being a little bit harsh on Lydia. Isn't the fact that she asked for advice as to what to do indication enough that she cares about her friend? Please, let's stay focused on what we're actually discussing here and not punish Lydia as if she is every judgmental mom you've ever encountered.

That being said, where I come from, a baby shower is something a friend or a family member gives to the parents, and it's a celebration of life. I had no idea it was 'first child only' thing, and it's completely possible that Lydia's friend had no idea either. Sometimes you spot an issue where someone you know is committing (at least in your eyes) an etiquette faux-pas, but it's usually good manners to bite your tongue about it.

But regardless of the etiquette issue, Lydia, I see only two decisions that have to be made here. Are you close enough to your friend that you want to be part of the celebration? And if so, can you cook, because I know no new parents who wouldn't love a nice hot dish from a friend. ;)

'La Vita E Bella' is my favorite movie too! (unless I'm mistaken and you're referring to something completely different)

home tastes like mashed potatoes, made with milk and white pepper and beat until reeeally smooth, and homemade gravy.

For the drink, Lipton's tea, brewed at the last moment but served in a glass with ice, so I could taste the hot and cold at once.
