I stayed in Astoria recently, LOVE IT. Your place reflects the lovely neighborhood.

creepy? really, people? They are cute. And for those of you with kids, its a genius, cheap, easily swappable way for your kids to display their current BFF's. Seriously, some people have no freakin sense of humor.

I just got blackout curtains from Overstock last month.
They are great! I wish I had gotten them years ago. I have them on a double rod, with a cheap pair of translucent Ikea printed curtains behind them. That way I get several options, plus a tiny bit of light to wake me up, since the blackout curtains are further away from the window.

wow, people have very complicated ways of getting good paint colors! I do what my mom taught me: choose your favorite nail polish color that makes you look and feel great. Then buy several shades in sample pints. Paint big squares on the wall. Cover them up one by one, until you have the winner. It's supposed to be fun, dammit.

Man, everyone has the same problems! After living with my boyfriend and my best male friend for 6 months, I've just started a new law...

I made a list of about 12 chores, every week we do one each. You can't do the same chore as the two previous weeks. The boys gave me a hard time at first, but I had them help decide what chores were roughly equal and they agreed to try it for a bit.

My baby does all the laundry, which is great. My roomie barely knows how to load the dishwasher. It's hard to combine 3 chill (lazy) adults in a 2 bedroom and keep things super clean.

Stunning, practical, and utter romantic. Brillant pallets of color and design. I like the use of the space simple but useful.

Lori's Latin Lair!! It is so different then anything else on here, using the most color in amazing ways. Vote for red!

I agree with Lillyrose... I keep coming back to this thinking I will see the "colors" other people are seeing. To me it looks very clean and serene, but NOT colorful.

Striking! Love the sensual, lush colors... especially the turquoise and black bar.

That pot rack is such a clever idea!

The large furniture makes the small place seem grand and super luxorious. My favorite so far, looks cozy and welcoming. : )

I think it's a beautiful entry, however, technically "Baja California" is a state in Mexico. That qualifies as outside the US, and should be posted in the International category.

Not to be a stickler, but LA is not "naturally a desert"...
It's technically a temperate climate (mediterranean subtropical), which gets around 15 inches of rain a year.

The Los Angeles climate problem is from the systematic destruction of environment around it. Read "The Los Angeles River: Its Life, Death, and Possible Rebirth (Creating the North American Landscape)" by Blake Gumprecht or "Ecology of Fear" by Mike Davis"! Decades of thoughtless construction and bad decisions have made this city more susceptible to fires and earthquakes.

I think this post was trying to spread the necessary awareness: more planning around the land, instead of changing it to fit our needs. Interesting ideas here, you could flush them all out into bigger topics.

2 bed, 2 full bath, 2 pkg, patio, top floor corner, dshwr...
I love my new place in Venice, $1650 is nothing for being 8 blocks to the beach. The building is kept up well, we have new carpet, and the place is pretty quiet. I think it takes a long time and picky endurance to find Westside spots.
I would never live in the Valley simply because I like SaMo and Venice better.
